West Lafayette, Ind. ? Kansas University’s volleyball team defeated Purdue three games to one Saturday night in the championship match of the Mortar Board Premier Tournament.
The Jayhawks, who improved to 3-0, dumped the host Boilermakers 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 15-5.
Senior outside hitter Amy Myatt, a native of Iowa City, Iowa, was named the tourney’s most valuable player after hitting a career-best .632 in the title match. She had a whopping 26 kills.
Senior outside hitter Nancy Bell and junior setter Molly LaMere also earned all-tourney honors for KU.
Bell and Sarah Rome had 12 kills apiece versus Purdue. Rome had 17 digs in the title match. LaMere averaged better than 41 assists per match in wins over Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky and Purdue.
Danielle Geronymo had seven kills, while Kylie Thomas and LaMere had six.
“I am very proud of the way our team responded in tonight’s environment,” KU coach Ray Bechard said of the road win.
KU will meet Wichita State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Horejsi Center.
