KU swimmers second

Kansas University’s women’s swim team placed second of five teams at the Big 12 Relays Friday at Robinson Natatorium.

The KU men placed fifth.

KU’s women and Texas A&M were tied for second entering the day’s final event the 100 freestyle relay.

The KU team of Jenny Fuller, Carrie Kirkham, Michelle Miller and Ashley Dower came through, placing third a full second faster than the Aggies. That effort helped KU to a 75-point outing, two points more than A&M. Texas totaled 117 points, good for first place.

KU’s Gwen Haley, Kristen Johnson and Maegan Himes won the 800 medley relay in 8:43.9. Carolyn Grevers, Himes and Johnson were second in the 300 breaststroke relay in 3:20.9.

Sarah Ross, Haley and Beth Schryer were second in the 1,500 free relay in 15:18.88. Julie Ottmar, Kim Waite, Grevers and Kirkham were third in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.73. Waite, Fuller, Grevers and Kirkham were third in the 200 free relay in 1:36.64.

Grevers, Haley, Heidi Landherr and Himes were third in the 400 medley relay in 4:03.75.

Fuller, Sarah Holke and Waite were third in the 150 butterfly relay in 1:19.9. Also, Grevers, Himes and Johnson were second in the 150 breaststroke relay.

KU’s Tammy Pace won the one-meter diving and was second in three-meter diving and fourth in platform diving.

Adam Hanhart was second in men’s platform diving, third in one meter diving and fourth in three meter diving on the men’s side. Sophomore Brian Soria joined Jon Reyes and Patrick Norman in a third-place effort in the 1,500 freestyle relay.
