Boulder, Colo. ? Kansas University’s men’s cross country team placed sixth and the Jayhawk women 11th at Saturday’s Big 12 championships at Buffalo Ranch Course.
KU runners Charlie Gruber and Mark Menefee earned all-conference honors, placing 14th and 15th respectively.
Gruber covered the 8K course in 25:36. Menefee finished in 25:38.
Colorado won the men’s race with 16 points, followed by Oklahoma State (85), Missouri (113), Texas (141), Nebraska (153), KU (177). The bottom six were Iowa State (185), Texas A&M (199), Texas Tech (211), Kansas State (241), Baylor (250) and Oklahoma (366).
Individual winner was Jorge Torres of CU in 24:48. CU’s Steve Slattery was second.
Freshman Laura Lavoie led KU’s women with a 40th place finish. She crossed the 6K tape in 22:41.
Colorado won the women’s crown with 29 points. Kansas State placed second with 81, followed by Missouri (100), Texas A&M (114), Oklahoma State (139), Iowa State (161), Nebraska (173), Texas (208), Baylor (214), Texas Tech (231), Kansas (256) and Oklahoma (364).
CU’s Kara Grgas won in 19:38. KU women’s finishers: Bridget Morrisey, 53rd, 23:09; Paige Higgins, 54th, 23:09; Eve Lamborn, 56th, 23:14; Lauren Brownrigg, 65th, 23:30; Katy Eisenmenger, 74th, 23:41; Kelli Reid, 78th, 23:54.
