KU swim teams open with intrasquad

Kansas University’s Blue team beat Crimson, 56-48, in the Jayhawks’ women’s swim intrasquad meet Friday at Robinson Natatorium.

Women’s coach Cathy Burgess cited the efforts of junior Carrie Kirkham, sophomore Gwen Haley and freshman Kristen Johnson.

In the men’s competition, Crimson won, 120-94.

Men’s coach Doug Dickinson cited the efforts of Brian Soria and Brian Brown.

Men’s winners were: Soria (500 freestyle, 1,000 free), Mark Daily (200 free), Jason Carr (50 free, 100 free), Brown (400 IM), Matt Hanson (200 fly), Mitch Loper (200 back), Adam Hanhart (three-meter diving), Chad Sunderland (200 breast).

Women’s winners: Sarah Ross (1,000 free, 500 free), Kim Waite (200 free), Carrie Kirkham (50 free, 100 free), Gwen Haley (400 IM, 200 backstroke), Beth Schryer (200 fly), Rebecca McFall (three-meter diving), Kristen Johnson (200 breast). KU will entertain Texas A&M on Thursday at Robinson Natatorium.
