? Kansas University’s Rodrigo Echagaray and Ed Dus bounced back from an opening-round loss Thursday to claim two victories on Friday in the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. All-American Championships.

Echagary and Dus downed Chad Carlson and Bo Hodge of Georgia, 6-4, 6-1, then edged Stanford’s Ali Ansari and Scotty Scott, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in the consolation quarterfinals.

“The opening match today was a big win. That will help their rankings they beat a very strong team. The Georgia guys came out flat and our guys took advantage of that,” KU coach Ross Nwachukwu said. “The second match was tougher, but our guys figured out a way to win the big points when it mattered. They stepped up our intensity in the third set and were able to pinpoint their shots. Any win over a team from Stanford, the defending national champions, carries a lot of weight.”

The KU team will face Texas’ Ronald Kloppert and Jean Simon in the consolation semifinals today.
