OAK RIDGE, TENN. ? Kansas University’s rowing team earned one victory and two fourths at the Central Region championships at Lake Melton.
KU’s first varsity four boat won heat No. 2 in 8:02.1. That qualified the boat for today’s grand finals. Members of the boat were Angie Kratochvil, Stacie Frain, Caren Nies, Alane Thomas, Ali Brox.
“The first varsity boat raced really well today,” coach Rob Catloth said. “I think they will be one of the favorites to win a medal.”
KU’s first varsity eight placed fourth in the semifinals in 6:32.6.
KU’s varsity eight will compete in today’s petite finals against Tulsa, Kansas State, Clemson, Miami and Notre Dame. The top three advanced to the grand finals.
Members of the boat: Nikia Rosenberger, Risa Petty, Tara Lynn, Heather Muir, Abby Rosdahl, Sarah Canfield, Laura Hubert, Keesha Cravens and Lettie Ebbs.
KU’s second varsity eight also placed fourth in the semis in 6:51.3. That boat moves to the petite finals against Notre Dame, North Carolina and Tulsa.
“Overall I thought we raced well,” Catloth said. “We are going to have to go out and try to win the petite finals.”
