Kansas University’s men’s golf team failed to make the cut for the finals of the NCAA championships Thursday at Lake Cours of Grand National.

The Jayhawks finished in a tie for 21st with Georgia State at 9-over-par 585. Georgia and Wake Forest tied for 15th at 6-over-par 582 and will have a playoff today for the final spot.

KU senior Ryan Vermeer, however, does advance to today’s third round as an individual. Vermeer shot 71 on Thursday to go with his first round 72 and has a 143 total, good for a tie for 21st.

Junior Conrad Roberts shot 80 on Thursday to finish at 147.

“We fell three strokes short of making the cut and reaching our goal of continuing for the final two rounds,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “Obviously it’s disappointing. We had two guys play a nice round today and the other guys just fell a little short. We had two double bogeys on the 17th hole and that’s what cost us.

“We wrapped up a great year and are proud of the way our team played throughout the season.”

.Other KU results: Jake Istnick 70-76-146;Andy Stewart 72-77-149 and Casey Harbour 81-77-158.
