Topeka ? Gov. Bill Graves said Wednesday he will miss Roy Williams if he leaves Kansas University but added that the Jayhawks’ basketball coach can’t make a bad decision about his future.
“There’s really not a wrong answer that he can make,” Graves said. “He just has to make a decision that he’s comfortable with.”
Graves said it would be impossible to make a poor choice because Williams will be picking between “two of the greatest programs in basketball history.”
When asked whether he wants Williams to stay at Kansas, Graves responded, “Absolutely.”
The basketball world has been rife with speculation that Williams would be the next coach at the University of North Carolina ever since Bill Guthridge quit Friday.
Williams has said he will make a decision by Friday.
Williams was on the North Carolina staff before leaving in 1988 to coach the Jayhawks.
