Oklahoma prepster commits to Kansas

Marshell Chiles, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound running back from El Reno (Okla.) High, has given Kansas University’s football team a nonbinding oral commitment.

Chiles rushed for 2,700 yards and 44 touchdowns as a senior.

He was a first-team all-stater as a kick returner and was named to the Oklahoma City Daily Oklahoman’s all-city team as a running back.

“(Kansas) is where I feel I fit in,” Chiles told online recruiting service MoKan Football. “I really liked it there. I liked everything about it. I liked the coaches and the players were real cool.

The Class 5A district player of the year, Chiles received early scholarship offers from Oklahoma and Colorado State, and was also recruited by Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Texas Christian.

“It was fun in the beginning,” Chiles said. “Getting calls from coaches was great. But now to make my decision it feels like a lot of weight off my chest. I’m done taking all of my visits. Coach (Jay) Johnson did a good of recruiting me. He talked me into taking a visit there.”

Chiles is the 16th player known to have given Kansas an oral commitment.

Seven of the 16 were junior college transfers who made the commitment binding by signing a letter of intent. Those seven should be on campus for next semester and should participate in Kansas’ spring drills.
