Tulsa coach Buzz Peterson played for North Carolina from 1982-85, while KU coach Roy Williams was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels.

Former Kansas assistants Bill Self and Steve Robinson both previously served as head coaches at Tulsa.

Tulsa is 6-2 after an 89-81 overtime win over Oral Roberts on Dec. 10 in Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane opened the year in the NABC Classic, beating Arizona State, 69-67, before bowing to North Carolina, 91-81, in Chapel Hill. Tulsa also has a victory over another KU opponent, SW Missouri State, 61-55, on Dec. 5 in Springfield, Mo. David Shelton leads the Golden Hurricane in scoring at 13.5 ppg. Marcus Hill averages 13.4 points, while Greg Harrington leads the team with 5.3 assists.

Kansas assistant coach Joe Holladay guided high school basketball teams for 14 years in the Tulsa area, including spending eight years as head coach and athletics director at Tulsa’s Jenks High School. Holladay played his college ball at the University of Oklahoma.
