KU-DePaul notes and starting lineups

By Staff     Dec 12, 2000

Kansas leads the all-time series, 6-0. KU tripped DePaul, 81-77, in overtime in a first-round NCAA East Regional game last March in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Jayhawks are 44-19 all-time versus Conference USA and 15-3 against schools from Illinois.

The Jayhawks are looking to break a three-game losing streak in the United Center, dating to the 1998-99 season. Last year, KU dropped two games in that facility, falling to Michigan State, 66-54 in the Great Eight, then losing to Illinois, 84-70, 11 days later. KU also lost to Kentucky, 63-45, on Dec. 1, 1998, in the Great Eight. Kansas’ last win in the United Center was on Dec. 2, 1997. KU beat defending national champion Arizona, 90-87, in the Great Eight.

Prior to KU’s current three-game Chicago losing streak, KU had won six in a row in the Windy City. KU is 5-3 in Chicago under Roy Williams and 4-0 versus DePaul.

DePaul enters with 4-3 record after a 78-69 win over Chicago State on Saturday.

Simmons averages16.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field. Sawyer averages 7.7 assists per game, while Hunter is hitting 61 percent from the field.

Collison and Gooden, along with Simmons, were all members of the USA Basketball World Championships For Young Men Qualifying Team last summer. Simmons also joined Collison on the USA Men’s Select Team last summer.

DePaul, which is located in Chicago, has an enrollment of 18,565. The Blue Demons play in Conference USA.
