In the fifth-place game of the Blue Valley Shootout, Kansas recruit Jeff Hawkins scored 42 points to lead KC Sumner to an 88-80 overtime victory over Ponca City, Okla.
Hawkins, a 5-foot-11 guard who plans to red-shirt for KU during the 2000-01 season, scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and had 12 of the Sabres’ 21 overtime points. He also made 13 of 14 free throws. In three tourney games, Hawkins scored 89 points.
