Pride named MVP

Senior Lynn Pride was a no-surprise winner of the most valuable performer award at Thursday night’s Kansas University women’s basketball awards dinner.

Pride led the Jayhawks in scoring (17.4 points per game), steals (2.5) and blocked shots (0.7) during the 1999-2000 season.

Pride scored in double figures in 27 of the Jayhawks’ 30 games. She also won the free-throw percentage award. Pride ended her career ranked fifth on KU’s all-time scoring list with 1,774 points and third on the rebound list with 863.

Junior Jennifer Jackson earned the academic and assists awards. Jackson was also named Most Inspirational.

Junior Jaclyn Johnson collected the rebounding award by averaging 8.1 boards a game. She was also named top defender.

Other winners were: Freshman Kristen May, most improved; soph Katie Hannon, sportsmanship; and freshman Jamie Shelite, coach’s award.
