Jayhawks brace for Nebraska

Larry Brown doesn’t concern himself with Big Eight Conference basketball standings.

“With what’s happened to this ballclub (injuries, ineligibilities), I don’t ever worry about where we are in the conference. I just worry about the next game,” said the Kansas basketball coach.

The Jayhawks, who entertain Nebraska tonight, have won three straight to vault from seventh to fourth place in the league.

Tipoff is 8:05 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse. A limited number of general admission tickets are on sale. Meanwhile, a live telecast is available on channels 13 and 41.

“We’ve had some kids step forward and do some positive things,” Brown noted. “Kevin (Pritchard) is getting better and better each game and Clint (Normore) is gonna be fine. Jeff (Gueldner) and Milt (Newton) have done everything I’ve asked, so positive things are happening. Now we’ve gotta get Keith (Harris) playing better and Masucci healthy.”

The Cornhuskers enter with a 12-12 record, 3-5 in the Big Eight. Kansas stands 15-8, 4-4.

Nebraska guard Henry T. Buchanan, who did not play in last Thursday’s 92-75 loss at Missouri because of a sprained ankle, is listed as questionable for tonight’s game.

The Jayhawks face a busy week. After tonight, Kansas travels to Kansas State on Thursday night, then faces Duke in its last non-conference clash on Saturday afternoon.

Both the K-State and Duke games will be televised nationally – the KSU game on ESPN (6:05 p.m.) and the Duke clash on CBS (3:10 p.m.).
