KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missour has apparently won the recruiting war for Anthony Peeler, one of the most coveted high school guards in the country.
Peeler said Monday night he will sign a letter of intent to play basketball with the Tigers. Peeler, a 6-4 guard, said he would formally announce his decision this morning at Paseo High.
Peeler said he picked Missouri over Kansas and Maryland.
“I like the Missouri coaches and look forward to playing with the Tigers next year,” Peeler said.
Peeler’s father, Larry Peeler, also said his son would play for the Tigers.
“He’s going to Missouri,” Larry Peeler said. “He just said he felt more comfortable with the coaches and the program at Missouri.”
Peeler, who averaged 20.5 points and 13.5 rebounds for Paseo last season, made his decision with hsi parents, family and Paseo coach Willie Bowie.
Peeler was listed as the top recruit in the country by several scouting services.
Peeler will have to wait to see if he will meet the necessary Proposition 48 requirements to be eligible next year. Larry Peeler said his son had a 2.6 grade poing average, which would mean under NCAA requirements he would need either a 680 on the SAT tests, or 14 on his ACT test to be eligible to play.
