Kansas at TCU coverage

TCU defeats Kansas, 62-55

  • 8 p.m., Feb. 6, 2013
  • Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, Fort Worth, TX

FINAL: TCU stuns No. 5 Kansas, 62-55

TCU pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Big 12 history, knocking off the Kansas men's basketball team, 62-55, on Wednesday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.

Coming into the game, TCU (10-12, 1-8 Big 12) was winless in conference play. The Horned Frogs' closest Big 12 game was a nine-point home loss to Texas Tech.

KU had just two points with 7:55 left in the first half. The Jayhawks finished with 13 first-half points (trailing 22-13), which was the lowest point total in a half for KU since at least 1988-89.

TCU led by as many as 16 (37-21) with 11:41 left in the second half.

KU made just 18 of 61 field goals (30 percent) and three of 22 from three (14 percent).

Ben McLemore led KU with 15 points, while Jeff Withey added 12.

KU (19-3, 7-2) will play at Oklahoma at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Nine straight (Kicks to the junk is what this team needs!)

texashawk10 9 years, 10 months ago

Not enough kicks, each player gets one for each player on the team. Also the kicks need to be with steel toed boots.

Bill Shaw 9 years, 10 months ago

Dolly Madison game #2. Lots of turnovers.

Joe Satterwhite 9 years, 10 months ago we have go get the hell beaten out of us on Saturday

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

I don't know how we recover from something like this. I hate to be doom and gloom but this was embarrassing.

jhwkr542 9 years, 10 months ago

“Elijah’s my guy,” Self said. “He’s my guy, and we have the best chance to win with Elijah in the game."

Maybe he would like to take that back...

Brian Leiker 9 years, 10 months ago

Yes he does, we'll see if he has foolish pride and rides him to a 5 or 6 seed in the tourney.

kennethst 9 years, 10 months ago

Yea....Self is just soooooooooo bad!!! You would be much better. Could you post your ph# so he can call you?

TheGiftedOne 9 years, 10 months ago

Spark? Tharpe went 2-15 from the field.... lol.

Ryan Michael 9 years, 10 months ago

How in the hell can you blame this on Johnson? Johnson didn't play well at all, but neither did anyone else.

Brian Leiker 9 years, 10 months ago

He's your General. It's like your QB throwing 4 picks and asking your team to win.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

There is something internal that is going on with this team. Why does a team need a THREE HOUR meeting? What was talked about that couldn't take an hour?

Travis was doing everything he could to get the guys to huddle up after a foul. Something isn't right.

jhwkr542 9 years, 10 months ago

It's the fact that Self said that EJ gives KU the best chance to win. Last 5 games: 14-48 (29%), 7-26 from 3 (27%), 3/8 FT, 18 AST:16 TO. Probably the most annoying thing for me (and probably others) is the nature of his TOs. Unforced or careless or just plain dumb. When we're down by 3 and have 8 seconds left and he tries to cross over in an apparent attempt to get to the basket, that's frustrating.

LAJayhawk 9 years, 10 months ago

EJ was bad. Very, very bad. But tell me what is the worst:

1) Elijah 3-12 for 8 points

2) Naadir 2-15 for 11 points

3) Travis Releford 0-1 for 1 point

jhwkr542 9 years, 10 months ago

I'd say Releford worst, then EJ less bad, and Naadir least bad. I wouldn't argue with any order, but if you did this list after every game, EJ would've been on it often.

FTWKU 9 years, 10 months ago

As I watched - in person- I kept wondering if this is what "throwing" a game might look like. Errant lob passes, ignoring the open post, or refusing to take open shots? The most surreal 40 basketball minutes I have ever paid to watch.

Chris1955 9 years, 10 months ago

I don't see this getting any better. When was the last time KU lost three in a row?

johnsont1 9 years, 10 months ago

Come on guys. You know the guys want these last two as much as you... It was not a lack of heart, effort, or anything else as much as it was too much nerves.

texashawk10 9 years, 10 months ago

Disagree big time. This team is not communicating, not going after loose balls, not boxing out on rebounds. This team is playing entitled basketball where they think the name on the front if the jersy is enough to intimidate opponents and they're finding out it's not reality. Coach Self is trying to figure out how to smack the arrogance out of the team so it remains to be seen what it'll take for that to happen.

Jace FitzGibbon 9 years, 10 months ago

dont even know where to start. hopefully bill has them running every stair in the fieldhouse twice then running sidelines til they throw up. worst display of basketball ive seen.

that was like losing to an intramural team...

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

For those who have tickets to the Monday game and will not be attending, take your tickets down to the homeless shelter and allow some of the children take advantage. Better yet that may be child abuse, dont do it.

Kip_McSmithers 9 years, 10 months ago

Does anyone else think the walk ons could have scored 13 in the first half?

LSHawk 9 years, 10 months ago

Worse EVER effort I have ever seen from a Jayhawk team, simply terrible. no excuses just terrible, Bill Self get this fricking lose. He has lost this team and this season.

eastcoasthawk 9 years, 10 months ago

Wow, just wow. Wonder how many more teams seasons we can make?

Ludwig Supraphonic 9 years, 10 months ago

It's the Gill Curse. It feels just like Fall 2011.

kcmojayhawker 9 years, 10 months ago

Wow, the team regressed and so did EJ. Self must get EJ off the point, I can't imagine Adams & Tharpe playing any worse. Something is going on with this group.

Craig Carr 9 years, 10 months ago

Worst team chemistry since late Ted Owens teams. No leadership, no heart. Johnson can't plat point, Withey is weak, Mclemore is lost on defense and no comment on Releford as he just had a bad game.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

I cant wait to hear some more cupcake questions by reporters.

Cody Riedy 9 years, 10 months ago

This is so "shameful" that the KU players should go fall on their swords and the fans should all drink purple koolaid that will make us sleep forever. And Bill Self should be fired and every starter have their scholarship taken away. I mean, look at all these other teams out their that are undefeated and have never had been upset or had a streak of bad games. Look at all of these other teams who when their conference every year and a national championship at least every other year. I mean, how could a loving God let this happen to us?!

Brianna Zaleski 9 years, 10 months ago

Boy, you really need someone to proofread ur posts. I could barely understand what the f u were saying. Did u just use "when" for "win"?

Cody Riedy 9 years, 10 months ago

Yep, I spelled out a homophone of win; i.e. "when." Thank you for "ur" help.

kujayhawks2585 9 years, 10 months ago

There is no way bill self will be fired. He is a future hall of fame coach

jaybate 9 years, 10 months ago

TCU didn't even have to really get tough with us. They were comfortable from the beginning, because they KNEW they weren't going to get roughed up.

KU has been exposed.

Jeff won't deliver a blow.

Kevin won't.

Trav won't.

EJ won't.

And so on.

No one will smack back.

There is no other way to say it.

This is a Roy Williams kind of team.

Long and thin and not an ounce of fight in it, once the punking starts.

Brianna Zaleski 9 years, 10 months ago

This is a Roy Williams kind of team. Long and thin and not an ounce of fight in it, once the punking starts.

No truer words have been spoken on this board... And we should all be freaking terrified.

JB, way to swish the metaphor.

Al Martin 9 years, 10 months ago

A Roy Williams kind of team except for the part where Roy's teams played pretty offense.

Curtis Stutz 9 years, 10 months ago

I can understand reading horrible comments from some of the fair-weather fans on these boards, and I know you're memory isn't the best Jaybate, but I didn't think it could possibly be this short! You mean this team full of 4 guys in the 7 man rotation that played the toughest basketball I've ever seen in the tournament last year? Full of guys that have put in 4 or 5 BS bootcamps? Come one Jaybate, enough with this knee-jerk garbage.

brooksmd 9 years, 10 months ago

Announcers called this biggest upset of the year. How quickly they forgot the dismantling of then No 1 Duke by Miami, 90-63 just a week or two ago.

Cody Riedy 9 years, 10 months ago

Hey, we just lost a game, what are you doing trying to bring perspective to the issue?

Craig Carr 9 years, 10 months ago

They were right, Miami a legit top 10. TCU a legit bottom 10

brooksmd 9 years, 10 months ago

At the time Miami was barely in the Top 25.

Kye Clark 9 years, 10 months ago

Miami is undefeated in the ACC. Maybe the margin of victory makes it similar, but there is no shame in losing to Miami. There is GREAT shame in losing to TCU.

JayHawkJay82 9 years, 10 months ago

You're kidding right? This loss is much, much worse.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

Miami may be the best team in the country. They are undefeated in the ACC. TCU got it's first EVER Big 12 win in history. It's first EVER win vs a top 5 team.

mariofan11 9 years, 10 months ago

We need Brad Stevens. Get Self and EJ out of here.

johnsont1 9 years, 10 months ago

@STLJayhawk You really think running stairs and yelling at players can fix this? I think they realize where they're at. Hopefully Self knows how to instill confidence in them; as opposed punishing them any more.

Jace FitzGibbon 9 years, 10 months ago

obviously the "team meeting" didn't work. light a fire under them. they're big boys that just lost to an intramural team

Kye Clark 9 years, 10 months ago

Anyone think we needed this loss? That it's a good thing? This was TCU! Who was being talked about as the worst team in the history of the Big 12! Whose closest margin of loss this year in-conference was losing by 9.

Anyone want to say "we're 19-3. We're fine" (as I saw many posts following the OSU loss)?

It might not be panic mode, as I don't know what good panic serves, but it's definitely major cause for concern.

So...time to re-evaluate. Can this be fixed? And if so, how?

Dick Murdock 9 years, 10 months ago

We didn't NEED this loss. We needed the OKS loss. This is the most embarrassed I've been since the Ted Owen era.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

Agreed. This is worse than the blow out we took at Baylor during the Kenny Gregory / Eric Chenowith days

Brianna Zaleski 9 years, 10 months ago

Not quite. But close. The Roy years would have ur occasional games where we would just get blown out of the gym with no evidence of heart. In the players or the coach.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

Are these players staying up to late playing twister with their girlfriends.

Curtis Stutz 9 years, 10 months ago

The only reason I'd say this loss was "needed" is it puts pressure back on the team just like they had entering B12 play, with basically no lead in the standings. It might have been easy to say "1st loss, still in the lead with KSU coming to AFH" after the OSU game. Now it's a free for all, every game is huge and they have to win a bunch of tough ones. Personally, I kind of like it. Last year's team had hated Misery on their butts all year, this year's team now is in a struggle for the conference title. Fans are no longer taking for granted that KU will just win it 'cause they will. Also they got some practice running full court press, which I like. So yes, I'll look at the positives from this. Oh yeah, and EJ might have gotten off the schnide hitting a few 3's late when TRele was avoiding the ball and BMac was heaving bricks. We need him confident IMHO, not being torn down publicly by HCBS. I hope HCBS let's EJ lead the next practice and determine how hard the guys need to run stairs/lines and puts him back in charge of the team after neutering him after the OSU game.

theend 9 years, 10 months ago

Your anger-management sponsor will not be happy. Can we call someone for you? Perhaps a pharmacy?

Dave Benjamin 9 years, 10 months ago

Wait. We look like deer in headlights to a inferior opponent? We don't have a tough leader to rally the team and lead with pride? Interesting this hasn't happened to a Self-coached team before.....Oh that's right. This happens every year at the worst possible time. Because of course it has to.

Christopher Hauser 9 years, 10 months ago

I have never seen anything like that before. Worst played game in KU basketball history? I have seen some bad ones but never like that. I am in complete shock.

TexasRockChalk 9 years, 10 months ago

I had to witness it LIVE. Worse in person! 10x worse!

Joe Satterwhite 9 years, 10 months ago

It's always KU that loses these gimme type games....hard to be a fan man

LSHawk 9 years, 10 months ago

losing to the WORST team in the big 12, you have got to be kidding me. if any idiots think bill self hasnt lost his team then your as nutty as a fruit cake. Simply terrible, coaching, players everything about this game should send shivers down all our spines.

Craig Carr 9 years, 10 months ago

No point guard and nobody willing to get physical = early March exit

NH_JHawk 9 years, 10 months ago

Question now is where do we go from here? Can we get back to where we should be or do we wither and die? I believe they can, but do they believe they can? Uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory. TCU, the only big 12 team with a winning record vs. KU? Awful.

Michael Bennett 9 years, 10 months ago

I honestly think we'd be better off if EJ just never shot (save for uncontested layups). When you go 3 for 39 every game or whatever do you really think you're helping your team?? Think how many defensive rebounds by the opponent that results in, and subsequent points on the other end. And it's starting to be every. Single. Night.

Ann Oneill 9 years, 10 months ago

He's got to shoot. Young won't shoot, Releford doesn't shoot, and the D keys on McLemore. Seems like there are too many 'role players' on this team, and not enough balanced players with all-around games.

Robert Murphy 9 years, 10 months ago

EJ can't make lay ups either. Nor can Withey, Young or Ellis.

kennethst 9 years, 10 months ago

This game was not even close really. Really though.....the season was lost last Saturady.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

The season was lost with these 4 seniors.

Ross Cargo 9 years, 10 months ago

Well it is just one loss, but we will not win the conference this year. We will lose at least 4 more games I think (road games vs ISU, OU, OSU, & Baylor).

This is the worst KU performance I can remember in a very long time. Someone said Owens era. That could be right. TCU is awful. They just did that.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

Something more is going on with this team. I don't know if there is tension on the team or if someone knocked up their girlfriend but this is more than us not having a point guard. There is no way a team like TCU could expose us not having a point guard like this.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 10 months ago

I don't know but this is more than just a slump. These guys are too good to be losing to TCU like this.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

At least Charlie was smart enough to sit Crist but Bill will start EJ until the horse turns to glue.

offline 9 years, 10 months ago

What an embarrassment display of basketball with Self coaching. This was a massacre of a lowlife team. TCU made turd birds of KU. Now is Self needs to be fired, has he is the worse coach in the NCAA. KU needs to put Doc Sadler as head coach. Ku will not even make the NIT. No more top 25, completely out of the 25. Sicken display of basketball is what the ESPN announcers said of KU. Bob (ESPN) said that KU is through and will not win 3 more games, if they are lucky to do that. He said it's coaching and Self doesn't have it. No point guard and the rest of the players are just mediocre. KU bird turds, not any better then their football team.

theend 9 years, 10 months ago

Look......"Lifelong_Jayhawk" is starting to foam at the mouth!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!! This guy has issues.

Craig Carr 9 years, 10 months ago

It does look like the last part of Owens era, my family had tickets right beside the bench. Remember my father, who was a coach, saying they had no on court leadership and no toughness. Guess it happens every 40 years, sad to see the lack of communication and leadership with this team. Bad chemistry doesn't just go away

Robert Murphy 9 years, 10 months ago

Owens could take five high school All Americans and by the end of the year you'd think they'd never played the game so don't wish that on us again. During that period I quit watching.

Brian Haase 9 years, 10 months ago

I don't know what kind of slump this is, or what it's going to take to get us out of it but I have faith in HCBS. 3 losses and it's Feb 6th and we still are at least tied for first in the Big XII. I think some of you are really overreacting, yes worst loss in KU history but we've at least showed we can play better. Rock Chalk.

theend 9 years, 10 months ago

They will not win the Big 12. But the season is not lost. I would rather they struggle now as opposed to March. Iowa State will win the big 12. That much is a done deal.

Jayhawks1985 9 years, 10 months ago

Hope this isn't a reenactment of how Baylor fell apart last year.

kuisgreat2 9 years, 10 months ago

Cody Riedy 9 years, 10 months ago

According to ESPN Stats: "Kansas shot just 29.5 percent in the loss to TCU. That's its lowest FG pct in 344 games under Bill Self (since 2003-04)."

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

These are the scorers that Bill is recruiting. (scary)

Niraj Shah 9 years, 10 months ago

This team has lost it upstairs and has lost their swagger. The players are not there. Wow, how quickly the year can turn south. March, to paraphrase Jim Mora "MARCH", this guys might not make it to March given their effort. ARGGGH!

Elijah Johnson is officially done. There is no getting out of the fox hole he dug himself in. Go with Tharpe and Rio from here on out. What's the worst that can happen? I think we've already seen it. Self needs to figure out how to get this team back on track. What has happened to this basketball team? It all starts with our guard play which has been absolutely horrendous. And now it seems the front court is catching up. CS needs to pull a rabbit out of a hat before Saturday.

TexasRockChalk 9 years, 10 months ago

Football? When does Ladies' Tennis start?

Robbk1066 9 years, 10 months ago

Pathetic. No energy, nothing. No points. This effort or lack there of was the worse in the history of the shot clock in the first half at KANSAS. EJ was not running, thinking, trying until the 2nd half. WHY? What is the excuse. Worse 19 win team after 21 games ever. EVER. At least try, at least close out, run the offense. Nothing. Hard to root for this lazy group of talent. Pathetic.

LSHawk 9 years, 10 months ago

Utttely and toatlly unaccecptable in ANY case for KU basketball. I just watched perhaps the worest basketball ever played by KU, simply terrible. How can anyone make excuses for losing to the worest team in the big 12. terrible, simply terrible and NOT KU basketball.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

ESPN just asked for a buyout for gameday.

RedJay 9 years, 10 months ago

At some point, someone has to score points. We held them to 22? in the first half, which is fantastic, but it has to result in a lead. I'm ready to blame the game plan. The famous bill self hi lo isn't working with this group. We have no strength on the blocks, so we CANNOT run hi lo. An NBA-style ISO might work, double screens for BMac should work, motion would at least be a change of pace. Defense can take us far, but we need a new approach to finding buckets.

Joe Satterwhite 9 years, 10 months ago

I won't be watching ESPN until the game on Saturday

dehawk 9 years, 10 months ago

Everyone is saying that the team isn't tough. Is it not possible the the beat down by Self after the last loss to the press (throwing the players under the bus) might have also contributed to their lack of confidence. To get beat by TCU say to me that they don't believe like they use to. Instead of yelling at the players the coaches need to help them build back their confidence. No one had it tonight.

Pitthawk34 9 years, 10 months ago

Treat them to a tea party an some cupcakes. Give them lots of hugs and have the assistant coaches tuck then in their beds at night and turn on the night light.

dehawk 9 years, 10 months ago

I've been in that place where everyone kicks you when you are down. It's tough enough to be an adult and deal with the flack. These are "young" men who are on a national stage. I guess you have never been kicked when you were down. If you had, maybe you would understand that encouragement can help. Too many haters here tonight.

kuisgreat is obviously a troll, not sure about you pitthawk. If not, stop feeding the trolls.

JHAWK34TRUTH 9 years, 10 months ago

There isn't an ounce of toughness in this team.

when you're down, get UP!!!

Quit letting teams PUNK you!

Releford doesn't have skills on offense.

Young can't make a jumper.

Withey's offensive game comes from other guys. If everyone is off he is too.

Mclemore is a freshman that lacks defense.

Johnson is in a slump.

Ellis is slow and can't play defense.

tharpe played well then cooled off

Hurt to say but this team is over rated. We've been exposed and teams are taking advantage of it.

Tony Bandle 9 years, 10 months ago

If what we saw tonight was the level of ability of our returning underclass men for next year, the starting lineup will read Greene, Frankamp, Embiid, Selden and, hopefully, Julius.

As much as it was a team loss, I put a huge chunk of blame squarely on Travis' shoulders. ONE POINT!! He saw that Elijah and BenMac were struggling yet all he did was treat the basketball like it was radioactive.

Give some love to Nadiir...he was at least trying and hit, what, six foul shots in a row and a three pointer??

theend 9 years, 10 months ago

I agree. Perry Ellis and AW3 have a longgggggggggggggggggggg way to go.

Brianna Zaleski 9 years, 10 months ago

Agree with ur whole post, Oak, however I think that Tharpe is dangerous and helped lose this game as much as anyone. Although he did, single-handedly, pull us back into that game w his FT shooting, his pull up 3's, 5 secs into the shot clock with no rebounders, are absolute killers. He kills any momentum with these ill advised shots. And he takes 2-3 a game! Hard to yank the player that's giving u the most heart though:(

Craig Carr 9 years, 10 months ago

There is no leader period! Coach can't play, too bad as I guarantee he can shoot better than most of them and would at least knock someone on their ass. Need someone with a chip on their shoulder, these guys have known nothing but winning and none of them were the the man. Someone needs to step up and I think only Releford is wired to do it.

Joe Satterwhite 9 years, 10 months ago

This is hilarious. KU fans arguing as if that'll get the team to play better

kujayhawks2585 9 years, 10 months ago

Guys stop saying bill self should be fired or the fans will quit coming out. This is not true what so ever. This was the worst game I had experienced Kansas play. We can all agree that their performance was beyond pathetic. With that being said, they are not going to loose 4 or 5 games in a row. They will get their act because bill self is a great coach. Will you guys please quit with the negative comments.

Robert Murphy 9 years, 10 months ago

Johnson should pack up and go back to Les Vegas and learn to deal black jack. Without Hedy's hard work Withey wouldn't be able to pull up his own pants. Releford did his disappearing act. BMac is not a lottery pick. The bench has learned nothing and stunk it up again. Kevin Young looks like a little girl playing with his feet all the time. The curtain just got pulled back and Bill Self turned out to be the wizard of Oz. We need Jaybate to write a parody. Withey can be the straw man. Releford can be the tin man and Johnson can be Alice. Is this Kansas?

Tony Bandle 9 years, 10 months ago

Just a comment.

Down deep in your hearts...and let's all be honest...did any of you really think that a team starting Kevin Young was truly a contender for a National Championship??????

This team lost it's heart [TROB] and it's soul [TYSHAWN] and no one has stepped up to take their place.

Actually, I give HCBS a ton of credit for getting 19 wins out of this bunch so far this year.

Did anyone else notice EJ smiling and laughing while Tharpe was at the line with KU down about 6 points? I may be reading too much into it but it seemed to me like he had a total lack of urgency. I don't remember if I ever began a game 0-8 but if I did, I sure was not smiling and laughing win or lose. I hope that I am just reading too much into it though, for my sanity.....I hope.

Holy hell, Batman....what the hell is wrong with you people. We have been on a remarkable run during the Bill Self era. New flash to all you Negative Nancy's....the era isn't over. It had been 264 games since KU had lost 2 games in a row. Was this a pathetic, disheartening performance by KU tonight? Yes it was. But if all you whiners and fair weather fans are season ticket holders I will be happy to drive down from South Dakota and occupy your seat for the rest of the year. With fans like the ones that have been posting here this evening, who needs enemies.....we have enough in the national media and at ESPN. Get it out of your systems now you spoiled cry babies. This is a rough stretch of games we have seen since the start of Big XII play. Bill will get this figured out and we will right the ship. Will we be a #1 seed? Doubtful....but our season and the Big XII is not lost...You people posing as fans make me sick.

Side note to KUSports Staff....will post game quotes and presser be posted on line?

Let's be honest: if BMac had hit his open looks in just the second half, KU probably would've squeaked by. But it is pretty clear that KU's offensive struggles are not just a "funk" or an abnormality. No, teams have figured out how to neutralize KU's strengths and the thing that the Jayhawks have been able to count on in the past - new players emerging after the ones who got us this far are being contained - hasn't occurred. Specifically I'm thinking Thaarpe (not enough patience when we're closing on an opponent) and Ellis (Drew Gooden-esque offensive potential) haven't emerged to wreak havoc with the book that opposing coaches developed of the winter on KU.

Here's the book o n KU, BTW: If you're physical enough, bump Withey as the entry pass is coming to him (don't worry you'll have time to bump him as he goes up for those helium lob passes - KU has never heard of the hard bounce pass). Keep him from catching the ball moving toward the hoop, and he'll freeze - and he never makes passes across the lane, so don't bring your helper from his side. Keep the defender on the outside shooter on that side to limit his kick-out, if you don't have a big enough body to defend Withey straight up bring help from Kevin Young - Withey rarely finds him inside for a pass. Withey will occasionally get a hook shot or a turnaround to go in, but that also means he's putting the ball on the floor, and that gives you a chance to steal, and it also takes him away from the basket and limits his chance to rebound. Once Withey makes a move, keep a body on young - his points come primarily from cleanup on offensive rebounds

Now that EJ can't hit the side of a barn, play off him a step on the perimeter. Cheat a bit to the inside - he'll still try to drive, thinking he can go past you on the outside, but just stay with him - (his speed is in the open court, not off the dribble). DO NOT SEND HELP - the defender just has to stay on EJ, and you will guide him away from the lane (or under the basket if he drives baseline. Either way he will attempt to leap pass before looking for a target and will either turn the ball over, get a charging call, or find a a player who is in the wrong position to shoot.

Try to stay with BMac as he goes through screens and stay in front of him. He has no move to the hoop so stay tight on him. Don't give him space to take a jumper. Releford is an opportunistic shooter who also can't drive. He'll look to shoot only when wide open as a result of a switch or someone cheating to help on another player's drive. Despite his hot shooting, Kansas doesn't look to get him the ball, and he often passes up a very open look to pass to another player less open. In that regard, the best defense is just to keep letting KU underutilize him on offense.

When you have the ball, remember that KU can still play defense, so chuck up the threes and hope for the crazy rebounds to lead to some broken play buckets. Or, if your defense on KU is working AND they can't hit their open looks, just play your normal game like TCU and you should still be able to pull it out.

We are one spoiled fan base. How many games has Kentucky lost? How about North Carolina? We got fooled early and thought this team was better than it is. Things have just gotten real. Next year won't be much better. Parity is coming to college basketball.

I was at the game tonight and just got home. Why do I feel like this loss is worse than Arizona, UTEP, Bucknell, Bradley, N. Iowa and VCU combined? Someone ... anyone ... please talk me off the ledge.

Shame on you "fellow Jayhawk fans" on here posting overly negative comments. Like it or not, you represent our Kansas Jayhawks. It makes me sick to see some so called "fans" to be giving up so easily and/or bashing our team. I understand you're upset, I am too, that game was hard to watch and it's even harder to live with. But how dare you jump to conclusions and post such ugly things about our coaches and team that has done so many great things already this year.

  • If you're on here as an impostor, posing as a "Jayhawk fan" writing cruel things about MY team, I wish upon the team you cheer for a doomed future, more so than that of comprehension. The best of luck to you. -

Listen Jayhawks, it is extremely evident that we are in a minor slump. We will now have to trust the coaches/staff to do what we know they are capable of doing. Our job is to cheer them on, ESPECIALLY in these times of hardship. It was a beautiful thing to not only be a part of, but to witness when we all came together when T-Rob's mother died. I see our current situation as no different, do not give up. Family Over Everything. Things obviously aren't going well for our guys. It's time for us to once again join forces with our heads held high and support those that represent us.

I have been a Jayhawk all my life and I will defend my team to the hilt. It makes me disappointed that I'm having to defend my Alma Mater against fellow Jayhawks. Get your heads up, cheer for your team, and be proud. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU.

Too all other fans, go ahead and kick us while we're don't often have a chance to.

I pray that Coach Self would for once in his career at KU run a taller line up. Play Young, Ellis, heck even Wesley at the 3. Slow down the pace and pound the ball inside. Let Johnson and Tharpe see what's going on and bring them off the bench. Please let McLemore run the show. Give him the green light to shoot, drive, or dish every position. I believe he has good enough handles. This team just isn't talented or deep enough to play blitz style basketball for the entire game. At times it seems like we end up hurrying a possession and/or turning it over as a result. I'm definitely not saying that Coach Self doesn't know the talent he has better than anyone, but it seems like we don't contest outside shots well and we are not dominating the glass. Doesn't a taller lineup create better rebounding? Plus, we have Withey to guard against the penetration who has, at some fault for not being even more aggressive, stayed out of foul trouble all year. I still think this team has enough to work with to make a deep run come tourney time. This isn't the end of the world!

I didn't see the game but am certainly now well caught up through these posts. Clearly a dreadful performance, which is entirely outweighed in my mind by the unparalleled entitlement from the Jayhawk Nation (if those are truly KU faithful making those posts). If in fact impersonators, you have problems. If Kansas basketball fans, you have problems. I am truly embarrassed not by this blowout, but by the the shameful lack of perspective. Horrible. A program that NEVER has a rebuilding year is mired in a TWO GAME SLUMP, and the overwhelming sentiment is that this is inexcusable? Even if this goes a another week or more, big whoop. Bill Self makes 3 mil a year but provides an average of one win per every 100K of salary. He has a title the Roy never delivered, and took KU to the finals last year, and we need him and this group of kids to be superhuman? I know the game had to be horrific, but so what? Give TCU their due for playing the way so many others do against KU - out of their element, or just sneaking up, being taken lightly, and lulling KU into a craphole. Be grateful this program is able to withstand as many upstarts as it does. Everyone is gunning for KU because of the programs unique greatness, and it's a tall order to always deliver at the level the most outspoken members of this fan base demand. The most epic college basketball program in America shows its dark side, and the loyalists cry like babies? Clearly an unprecedented bad performance - in a season where the 2nd and 3rd losses were posted in February.

I think we should change up the line up. This would bring scoring off the bench and will make couple of the guys to have a chip on their shoulder when they come in.

Depth Chart should be: PG:Naadir,Elijah, SG: Ben McClemore, Andrew White III, SF: Travis, Jamari, PF: Perry Ellis, Kevin Young C: Jeff Withey, Justin Wesley

I love this team and think Coach Bill Self is amazing! I am thankful they are getting these crappy games out of their systems before tournament time! So we got spanked in two games....we will be back. Rock Chalk!
