Keegan Ratings: Todd Reesing takes top honor

By Staff     Sep 7, 2008

_After each KU football game this season, this is where you can find out the gridiron equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Top 10 Jayhawk individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second-best gets nine points. Third-best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)_**1. Todd Reesing:** Forever keeping his eyes downfield, Reesing side-stepped this rush, back-pedaled to avoid that rush, and threw one perfect strike after another for a statistically remarkable day (32 for 38, 412 yards, three touchdown passes.) **2. Dezmon Briscoe: **Two games, two remarkable performances. He broke five tackles on his touchdown reception and finished the day with seven catches for 146 yards. **3. Daymond Patterson:** He’s the fastest guy on the field and that’s before he turns it up another notch. Had eight catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns. **4. Darrell Stuckey:** Had 10 tackles, the most memorable two coming when he closed ground on speedster Phillip Livas and brought him down at the 2-yard line after a 78-yard rush and followed that up by throwing Patrick Jackson down for a 4-yard loss. **5. Kerry Meier:** When Reesing couldn’t find anything else, he found old reliable Meier nine times for 71 yards. **6. Joe Mortensen:** Always active, Mortensen had nine tackles. **7. Chris Harris:** Intercepted a pass in the end zone and played his typically sound game in coverage. **8. Angus Quigley:** Led the team in rushing for the second week in row, this time gaining 84 yards on 15 carries. **9. Mike Rivera:** Active and hard-hitting, he would have ranked much higher if he held onto what would have been an interception. **10. Jeremiah Hatch: **The pass protection was far better with Hatch in the lineup in Week 2 than it was with him watching the opener. Maybe he had something to do with it. **The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points)** **T1.** Dezmon Briscoe (18 points) **T1.** Daymond Patterson (18 points) **3.** Kerry Meier (13 points) **4.** Todd Reesing (11 points) **T5.** Mike Rivera (8 points) **T5.** Alonso Rojas (8 points) **7.** Darrell Stuckey (7 points) **T8.** Joe Mortensen (5 points) **T8.** Jake Laptad (5 points) **T10.** Chris Harris (4 points) **T10.** Phillip Strozier (4 points) **T12.** Angus Quigley (3 points) **T12.** Caleb Blakesley (3 points) **14.** Kendrick Harper (2 points) **15.** Jeremiah Hatch (1 point)
