Jayhawks move past UCLA on all-time consecutive AP polls list while dropping to No. 7 this week

Another all-time NCAA basketball streak now belongs to Kansas.
The KU men’s basketball program dropped a spot in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 — from No. 6 to No. 7 — but in doing so still was ranked for the 222nd consecutive week.
That breaks a tie at the top with UCLA for consecutive weeks ranked in the AP poll, which began during the 1948-49 college basketball season. The Bruins were ranked in 221 straight polls from 1966-80.
KU’s current streak started Feb. 2, 2009.
Kansas also holds the all-time consecutive polls ranked streak in the USA Today Coaches poll. Dating back to the final eight polls of the 2008-09 season, KU has been ranked in 228 consecutive USA Today Coaches polls, which first began during the 1989-90 season.
KU now has passed UCLA for consecutive regular season conference titles (14, from 2005-2018) and consecutive weeks ranked in the AP poll. Unlike that first one, which was snapped during the 2018-19 season, the Jayhawks can still add to this one in the weeks and months ahead.
There's no telling when this streak will end, but even when it does KU figures to stay at the top for a long time. Sixth-ranked Duke is currently second on the active list, having been ranked in the last 85 AP polls.
KU dropped a spot in the AP preseason poll after losing its season opener to No. 1 Gonzaga on Thanksgiving and bouncing back a day later with a 22-point win over Saint Joseph’s.
The Jayhawks (1-1) will now take on Kentucky on Tuesday night in the Champions Classic in Indianapolis at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
John Calipari’s Wildcats lost to Richmond at home on Sunday and the result of that game was reflected in this week’s AP poll, with the ’Cats falling from No. 10 to No. 20 and Richmond jumping into the poll from unranked to No. 19.
Four of the top 10 teams in the country lost during the opening week of the 2020-21 season, with KU, No. 3 Villanova, No. 4 Virginia and Kentucky all going down.
As a result, Gonzaga maintained its spot at the top of the poll and now has 57 of the 63 first-place votes. Baylor stayed at No. 2 and received the other six first-place votes.
Big Ten programs Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois rounded out this week’s top five.

So in other words, the last time Kansas was unranked in the polls, Sleepy Joe was a corrupt, incompetent Vice President. There's your historical perspective for the day. You're welcome.

To be more accurate Bryce, it was around about the time Tweaky Trump was stiffing contractors in Atlantic City, while on his to bankrupting the Taj Mahal.
Along with being one the very few one term Presidents, Trump is also one the very few people to lose money owning a casino.

Hear, hear, James!
To have this many people still supporting such a blatant and stupid con man like Trump shows that we truly have one of the stupidest countries on earth.

It's nice that we've passed UCLA for these records. Now if we could pass UCLA's record for championships, THEN I'd be excited ...

Definitely one of the most stupidest countries. Voting for major tax hikes and socialism. Forgiving student loans because they were STUPID enough to get a degree in gender identification or underwater basket weaving. Companies will pull out and go back overseas. Hello recession or even depression.....coming soon to a city near you.
These records that KU is getting is awesome. We have to be at the very top of most accolades with the fewest National Championships.

Funny how seemingly innocuous stories about KU sports so often inspire political commentary. I’m looking for the code words in between the lines but can’t find them.
Seven seems a bit generous but I’ll take it.

@Dane. True, but it’s just like chocolate, I just can’t resist the political jabs. It will go away in another year or so.
7 does seem a bit generous. I think we will score more points this year.....just need to work on the defense. That will come as well. Bill doesn’t want us to peak too soon. As far as our upcoming game with Kentucky, we need to follow the recipe for their last loss....drive, drive, drive. If we go toe to toe, it doesn’t seem to work well for us. We never seem to beat them in the Champions Classic.

Still 16 behind Kentucky for all time NCAA wins, but we continue to chip away at that lead each year.

I think the count is as follow: (unless I am wrong)
Kentucky - 2321 Kansas - 2303 North Carolina - 2277 Duke - 2202 Syracuse - 2024

Lose to the number 1 team in the country who is ranked above KU and drop a spot...head scratch...
