5-star PF Isaiah Todd picks Michigan

The Kansas men's basketball program went 1-for-2 on the recruiting trail Thursday.

Five-star power forward Isaiah Todd chose Michigan over KU in an announcement ceremony at his high school in Raleigh, N.C., on Thursday evening.

Todd said his bond with first-year Wolverines coach Juwan Howard played a major role in his decision.

“I’m excited to be a part of what coach Howard is building at Michigan,” Todd told USA Today prep writer Jason Jordan in an exclusive interview about his decision. "He played in the league and played my position, and I know that I can learn a lot from him. Big things are coming at Michigan.”

The 6-foot-10 forward who is projected as a one-and-done talent and ranked No. 10 overall in the 2020 class by narrowed his list to KU and Michigan two weeks ago. KU outlasted Kentucky, North Carolina and Memphis to make Todd's list of finalists.

Earlier in the day, Kansas picked up a commitment from 6-10 forward Gethro Muscadin, the No. 131-ranked prospect in the 2020 class per, who had announced Nov. 1 as his decision day but moved it up to Thursday because of his excitement about the opportunity at Kansas.

A big man wanting play for Juwan Howard is not a surprise.

I want Danny to win at Wake. If he doesn’t, then put a blindfold on, spin around the room, fire the coach you are pointing at and hire the Miracle Man back. No one, including Howard, knows better how to succeed as a multi-skilled big man than the best collegiate basketball player in history.

And give him a lifetime contract. And I’m not kidding.

Agreed..aside from Embiid, no KU big man has developed like they did with Manning

None of those played for Self after Manning left

It was a good sign to be named in his top 2 ..but I fear kids like him might be out of reach until this NCAA dark cloud has passed...we might get to see Self doing some serious coaching since be might not have the type of talent he is used to...

He's already proven himself with lesser talent at Tulsa and ORU.

He didn't face the level of talent or expectations that he has with KU

It may be crazy, but I actually like filling our roster with the underrated or quickly rising 4-star talent that will stick around for three or four years and develop. Tired of the one-and-done carousel.

To be fair, its not always easy to tell which kids are gonna be one saw Embiid being OAD when he came to KU, but he was....nothing wrong with mixing a OAD like Jackson in with veterans..but Self has really never built his teams to rely most on OAD kids

Getting 5 star (or close) recruits on a fairly regular basis was the blue print for 14 straight conference titles. Obviously programs can win without 5 star kids but it will be a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, not the high level consistency we've seen previously at KU. I'm sure the next few years will be a roller coaster until, hopefully, we can put the NOA and potential penalties behind us. This year will hopefully be a high.

there's a difference between getting one and done's *typically top 15 recruits' and recruits ranked 20 to 60 as a random group...........we are getting juco kids and recruits in the 100's.........that is not a blueprint for excellence........20-45 would probably be the ideal kids to go after.......the ncaa investigation is severely limiting our recruiting right now which might result in a couple very mediocre years coming up

This is not exactly true ....look at Texas tech last season...their best player was Culver..I believe he was only a 3 star prospect when he arrived in college..the rest of the team was made up of transfers and kids who I'm sure didn't crack the top 60 in the HS rankings..they came within a Hunter game tying 3 of winning the NC..are you saying Self is an inferior coach compared to Beard?

Um.....Do people who post in here know what we have on the roster currently and how good we are going to be this year and going forward for 2020?

Wilson is not a guaranteed OAD by any stretch. We have a step in ready PG in Harris. two good wing players in Enaruna and Wislon, McCormack, Garrett lockdown D senior leader.

and depending on how things fall: Agbaji, Lightfoot, and DeSouza all here for 2020 season.

There will be no mediocrity. We're starting another Big 12 streak and perhaps this year, if people stay healthy, a national championship.

Things are just fine. Can't wait for Self and the University to fight the Big Bad NCAA monster. Someone needs to. Might as well be KU.
