A few more notable links following the Kansas men's basketball team's 69-62 victory Sunday over Temple.
• Following Friday's extended story on KU's basketball tradition, Philly.com's writers continued to sing Allen Fieldhouse's (and KU fans') praises following Sunday's game.
Here's the end of the game story from the Daily News' Dick Jerardi, who earlier calls Jayhawk fans "the best and loudest crowd in college basketball":
When it was finally clear KU was going to win again, those great fans started to chant and sway. It was the moment for "Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU." But it took quite a long time and, at Allen Fieldhouse, that is about as close to victory as any opponent gets.
Inquirer writer Kevin Pompey, who called the Fieldhouse "part Smithsonian and part basketball mecca" in his preview story Sunday, had this to say in his "best and worst" notebook afterwards:
The deafening sound from 16,300 screaming fans created an electric atmosphere I’ll always remember. Covering a game at “The Phog” is by far one of my best experiences at a sporting event.
A few other links ...
• Foxsports.com's Sean Keeler emphasizes the importance of KU guard Travis Releford in his postgame column, noting that KU was plus-10 with the senior on the court in the second half and minus-nine with him on the bench.
• Speaking of Releford, ESPN.com's Robbie Pickeral selected him as one of her five "underrated and overlooked" players nationally.
• And finally, here's a quick look at game highlights from KU Athletics. Definitely worth a look is Travis Releford's reaction to his three-pointer at the 1:08 mark.

Great video at the end, sometimes I forget how special and blessed you are to just be a part of the magic at the Feildhouse. Tough to fully appreciate when you are a student and you are just itching for that next home game. Getting goosebumps just thinking about some of the games I got to watch. Rock Chalk.

Loved the reader's comment after today's Jerardi article that Temple would have coasted to a 10 point win without homer officiating. However, I do agree with the reader on the phantom kicked ball call.

Well, that call was pretty terrible. But to say it was a momentum changer when the refs sent Releford to the bench for what should have been a blatant offensive foul is quite one-sided.
Pretty sure Releford's foul trouble might've had an impact on momentum as well, eh?

Wyatt tried pulling the same "jump into the defender" when they land along side him when Withey went out to defend him in the 1st half. The O player initiating contact is at best a non-call as in the first half, and definitely not a defensive foul.
It's not quite as bad as the non-"kick" ball, but definitely more impactful of the game.

Travis' reaction to his made three was classic. It shows just how much they care. And that, as a fan, is all we can ask for!

Did you guys catch that sign near the end of the video that said "Welcome to our 'temple?'" Classic!

That's what I thought! It was awesome!

Dear KUsports, I wish you guys would post highlight videos after every game. I don't like ESPN's highlight videos. Best, PSM

That's a video rights issue. You're not going to see many LJW highlights outside of practices, exhibitions and interviews.

The Big 12 needs an Eastern time zone Division with a presence in Pennsylvannia.
Temple, a good, 35k student school with a great medical school, needs a better conference than the Atlantic 10 for basketball and in order to commit to football.
The Super Corridor is blocked in Maryland and Virginia, but could go through Pennsylvania to a port. In Philly.
If you want to recruit east coast schools to a conference they know nothing of, maybe the powers that be have figured out you use a great recruiter, rather than a chancellor, or a commissioner.
Self and Dick Jerardi were doing their best to communicate common ground. Both Philly and Lawrence media seem to be doing their parts in spreading brotherly love, too.
Self said they sell the same things in our stores they do in yours. We have a great tradition and respect your great tradition. These comments were the comments not just of someone hyping a game, and a deft recruiter looking for future players, though they were those for sure. They were also a deft recruiter acting as a good will ambassador, finding common ground with strangers the Big 12 would like to get to know better.
Remember Penn State is bloodied and weakened by scandal, but standing fast with the Big Ten and Pitt dodged the Big 12 by going ACC.
What about Temple in Philly? :-)
State school. Good hoops tradition. Good track tradition. Probably would like to build a big time football program just like KU would.
And remember there is as big of a distinction in ruling oligarchies between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, as between Wichita and Kansas City.
And to the extent the state of Pennsylvania might act in unified, coordinated fashion, and were to view conference affiliation as regional alliance building, what could be better than having one foot in the Ten, one in the Twelve, and one in the ACC?
It makes your state pivotal to three huge regional alliances. Talk about influence!
Next meeting Self will probably bring up how much the Eisenhowers liked Gettysburg and what a pleasure it was to have the Mellon's create his home state of Oklahoma home and mine coal in southeast Kansas. And, hey, Kansas has a town named Pittsburgh too!
Hang on, Huggins, the Twelve appears to be working to get you playmates in the eastern time zone.
And now they've got a real recruiter on the job.
And maybe Lew is operating in the background once again, too. :-)

Sorry, but "C'mon Maan"... You have to know that football has too large of an influence to ever consider Temple joining the B12. I agree and do enjoy the adoration and appreciation we share with them in regards to Bball fan base, enthusiasm and the like- as well as Bball tradition and respect. But Louisville didn't get added to the B12, and they clearly wanted the nod. if Temple ever gets that add I'd pray we are in a major conference be it with Texas, or a member of the B1G, because if not our Bball program will seriously, severely, suffer such superlatively stankarse sequences and spinoffs that will slot us sucking until doomsday. As in we will be getting paid A-10 money, and can expect a program on par with St. Louis University as far as money, talent, and exposure go. As much as I respect their appreciation for tradition, and they are def cool in my book, there is just no way. I do wish basketball ran things, but you already know the re-align is bigger than bball (or football/ tv contracts- Altho those football contracts choose the bigger state schools for a reason, so there is an undeniable correlation)...
