The updated KUsports.com App is now available for download at the iTunes store.
The app — which is free — contains a new look and also added features aimed at providing more comprehensive coverage for those who follow KU sports. Those with the first version of the KUsports.com App will simply need to download the update through the iTunes store.
The new app features all the latest news and feature stories from KUsports.com's writers, along with an added feature of offline reading capability.
The app also will be a useful source of information during men's basketball and football games, providing live stats and also up-to-the-second commentary from KUsports.com writers like Tom Keegan, Gary Bedore and Matt Tait.
Another useful feature will be expanded statistics, which will include box scores and also comprehensive player and team stats. These statistics are available for football, men's basketball and women's basketball.
The app also provides an easy-to-navigate schedule, making it simple to reflect on KU's past games or plan for the ones coming up.
This version of the app has been updated for iOS 5 and also is current with the 2011-12 basketball season.
More features also will be added in the near future, which will include Android availability and access to photos, videos and other exclusive content from KUsports.com.

I'll check it out but am a bit doubtful, because the previous app was possibly the single worst application on any platform that I have seen in 31 years as an IT professional.
KUHOOPS 1 year, 3 months ago
Amen. Their first version crashed repeatedly. I hope this version is better. Jesse, you should have addressed this to allay our concerns.
ParisHawk 1 year, 3 months ago
First comments:
1) The articles show up fine, but no comments or ability to comment. Mobile web 1, app 0
2) Stats are organized by team vs. player, then sport. Wrong Should be organized by sport first.
3) When I turn the iPhone from portrait to landscape, the stats screen turns but the stats don't fill out to the wider left and right margins. Lame.
4) At least I can see when the next game is. Mobile web 1, app 1.
5) Where's the cram session?
Much more serious effort this time, but perfectible.

Android violated so many patent laws that it will soon be taken off the market. There are 49 Android-related infringement suits (federal and ITC). " If even a handful of those go against Android, or Android device manufacturers, it will severely handicap the future success of the OS" Florian Mueller, an expert on intellectual property, explains in a blog post, "Those patents are apparently infringed by code that is at the core of Android." Don't waste your money on a soon to be defunct OS.

I'm not telling myself anything. Just stating the facts. Personally, I have a Samsung Galaxy S. Can't say I like it any better than my old iPhone but my wife has an iPhone 4s with iOS 5. It's pretty cool.
boozer 1 year, 3 months ago
Yes you are telling yourself something! Android isn't going anywhere. Apple files lawsuits like Wilt scored on (and off the court)...all the time! Yeah I said it!
"Android violated so many patent laws that it will soon be taken off the market." btw, that statement you just made is Libel. Get ready to be sued yourself.
jayhawkintx1973 1 year, 3 months ago
I doubt that Google would be forced to take the platform away. Literally MILLIONS of phones being made. These lawsuits are inevitable when one company thinks they have a monopoly and the other one creates a competing, lower priced alternative. Apple would be dumb to continue these lawsuits.

Yeah, Apple never violates patents. That unlock screen is pure genius. About as much brain power as hitting the space bar. Android is bigger, better, cheaper and it will be around a while.

Cool! App looks great! btw. I love Apple... Not only because I own most of their well designed and elegant products, but also because I own its stock (and to say the least, I am happy about that decision I made a few years back)!

Hey Jesse. There's an error in the App. On the team stats page, it has KUs shooting % listed for all, 3pt, and FT. All 3 are listed at 48.4%. Seems the coding for the fields for 3pt and FT were copied from our overall rather than their own equations.

TuneIn Radio is a great app for that. I get a better connection and somehow, it seems, less of a delay. If I'm driving I plug in and listen through the car speakers. It's just like I was back home.

For all of you Android users griping about being left out, read the last sentence "...which will include Android availability." Your impatience about Android is only exceeded by your impatience in getting to the bottom of a blog post!

Yeah, maybe just in time for basketball season to end!!!
jayhawkintx1973 1 year, 3 months ago
Yep, and why it takes this long for a KU fan base as large as it is from what used to be a number one rated website for its size should be questioned.
I think it got to the author's head just a little. He has friends he's trying to please first and foremost, as opposed to being a site that is enjoyable for fans to come to. It was a very poorly organized and written article at that, by the editor.

I think this version is a big improvement, but I haven't tried everything out yet. We'll see how it performs tonight during our Cincinnati watch party.
Not to be ungrateful, I just want to point out that I found another really nice iPhone app -- it's actually College SuperFans, from Smartphones Technologies. I have the version licensed by Illinois Fighting Illini, but once you get inside the app, you can add up to 10 teams to follow, and the Jayhawks are among them (oddly, many Big 10 teams are, but Ohio State is not. Illinois rival?) Look for College SuperFans in the app store, and you will have a number of teams to choose from.
Since my husband is an Illini, I am content with a big orange I sitting on my screen. KU apparently hasn't licensed use of our logos to it, but the functionality is good. Check it out

Hhhmm. I must have misread the title of this article. I didn't read it as "Android users, come. Post your hate of iPhone/Apple here." Fools.

Personally, I think they have done a wonderful job of taking elements of KUsports.com and making them available and useful in a FREE App. There will always be 'something' we as end users think could be done better or should be included or might be done differently, but these guys have outdone themselves making this version much better than the previous one (and notably better than most of the other 'sports' Apps out there if you are wanting KU specific stuff?). Granted, non-Apple fans/users are going to complain - And I'm sure the KUsports.com folks have taken that into account and will be addressing the growing Droid community. I like this App a ton and will likely check it daily for the news/articles... and most definitely on the days of games for score updates and stats!
I feel they deserve some kudos and on that note - decided to go out to the App Store and Write a Review for them! Good job KUsports.com - keep up the good work and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
