Blog gives interesting perspective from anonymous KU football player

Those wanting to get a bit of insider information on what's going on inside the Kansas football program should be sure to read Owen Kemp's latest blog post on his blog, Rock Chalk Talk. In the post, Kemp has a conversation with someone he calls a "source," but judging from the quotes, it appears to be an anonymous player still on the KU football team.

The "source" makes it through a lot of topics, including some recent changes in the team's conditioning.

"Offseason conditioning right now the team was doing close grip bench," the source told Kemp. "Big John (Williams) says keep your feet flat. Someone didn't, the whole team is doing up downs. They're on us, nobody wants to be 3-9 again. We're learning to do everything right and then there won't be any extra up downs. Tired of them."

The "source" also talks about special teams (including the punt formation KU used), reasons for why KU struggled in 2010 and players to look for in 2011.

Definitely worth a click on the link above if you haven't seen it yet.

I stumbled across rockchalktalk.com about a year and a half ago and it quickly found its way into my favorites. Between Kusports.com and rockchalktalk.com I feel like I get a wide array of all things KU athletics. Thanks to everybody and keep up the great work!

Definitely! It is also great the way RCT interacts with other SBNation site, even the rival kitties to the E & W. It is also nice that the comments are generally informed, and much less of the ignorant rants and insults found at other sites (ie. KCStar).

Thanks Jesse. Interesting read. Sounds like the stories of how much the players liked and respected Gill at Buffalo are coming true here too. The haters will undoubtedly spin that as a negative, but it seems to me that these guys believe in the staff.

I agree, LA. This interview reflects positively on the current coaching staff and provides further hope that the program is heading in the right direction.

It almost sounds like some players weren't buying in, but the staff had to play them due to lack of depth. That is really to bad, hopefully this off season those players are taken care of and the team moves on and grows in leaps and bounds.

It also sounds like this staff was a little to worried about being too hard on the players at first due to Lew's firing of MM.

But I did like what I read, sounds promising. Man I really hope so.

Love the insight.... thanks for passing it on .....

I echo the poster that suggested it was a special teams guy.... He focuses alot on blocking schemes and has pretty good knowledge of line play..... I would guess a lineman on the special teams unit.... possibly plays on the defensive side of the ball too... Foster maybe ? regardless of who it was there are several positives to take from this....

Our Defense sounds liek it will be supremely improved.... Between the changes and another year of conditioning ( or a year of actual conditioning ) we should be alot better on that side of the ball..... If the source is correct about the line's improvement and injuries that would certainly show why we never got a foothold in the running game.... even after Sims showing pretty well early.... A developed runnign game should ease mecham or Webb into a much more reliable comfort zone, and produce better as the season progresses.

This one goes out specifically to you, AHMULAZA...... reading that... this source repeatedly mentions THIS STAFF KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT..... IE, Gill's coach and his COACHES are not over their head, incompetant or too passive.

Management should fire anyone who uses an unnamed "source."

As for the coaching staff. I'm looking at a 3-9 record that says otherwise.

Fire anyone who uses an unnamed "source?" Do you know anything about journalism? And if you somehow have some explanation as to how you are an expert in journalism, as you apparently think you're an expert in every subject, then why would you not be aware of simple journalism tricks? Nobody's going to fire someone for using unnamed sources, that's part of journalism! You really don't know much, do you?

i know ljw hasn't had the best record with it's "sources" lately!

It probably wasn't an anonymous player, but a current KU coach, players don't do that crap.
