Kansas coach Bill Self talks to reporters following a 74-71 win over Villanova Saturday afternoon in Allen Fieldhouse.

"I don't think we played great by any stretch, but we played a lot better today than we've been practicing," KU coach Bill Self said. "I'm optimistic knowing there is a gear we can get to."

Lagerald Vick scored a team-high 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while Dedric Lawson scored 28 points behind a 10-for-15 effort from the floor.

KU plays host to South Dakota at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

KJ's terrible! Are we sure he came from the "Lawson" family?

Boi gets taken off the bounce all day. Can't defend.

Dedric isn't exactly an all star defender. Defense and the Lawson Family don't seem to be comparable.

But KJ can't score either.

Can't do either. I mean...???

KJ is not his brother's equal. He is not a "bad" player, just not starter quality. It seems like he tries to take advantage of what little time he gets on the floor to prove himself worthy of more time on the floor. In the past that has backfired for those Kansas players who did the same thing. Brannen Greene comes to mind.

KJ just needs to play better defense, get the ball to his brother (he has done that very well, not so much yesterday), and take scoring opportunities when they come to him, not force them (as he did yesterday, too).

Forget comparisons to his brother. KJs terrible.
