Frank Mason: KU needs to adjust defensively in NCAA Tournament

Kansas senior point guard Frank Mason III describes what the No. 1 seed Jayhawks expect out of 16 seed UC-Davis on Friday night, in Tulsa, Okla.

As the Jayhawks move forward in the NCAA Tournament, they hope to improve defensively, and Mason says there are areas the players know they should address to help on that front.

“Just really focusing on scouting report, paying attention to detail,” Mason says. “Being in the right positions on the defensive end — you know, strong help. And I think if we do those things we give ourselves a pretty good chance to be successful.”

I hope that the Jayhawks improve the defense, yes, but have a balanced approach in their minds. You dont want them SO aggressive that they start committing fouls (because we're short on bodies) or, less likely, that the offense will suffer.

UC Davis serves two purposes only: 1. To shake off the rust from having taken a lot of playing time off. 2. To rid anyone of tournament jitters (though I dont think there will be much of that considering the veteran leadership on this team and the fact that they are very eager to see the court again).
