Wayne Selden Jr. wows as Kansas moves on in NCAAs
1 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Devonté Graham stole the ball at mid-court and a Kansas fan seated in the front row immediately said, “Lob to Selden.” Sure enough, bam! But there was no way of knowing that Graham would throw it up that high and Selden would punish the rim that much. Selden defended well and contributed 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot to the cause.
2 - Perry Ellis: He repeatedly was the tonic for scoring droughts and scored in such a wide variety of ways. His pet moves, even though scouted well, can be impossible to stop. For example, when he drives left, he likes to spin to the middle, but does it so quickly that even the defender who knows it’s coming can’t keep up. His jumper was on from every distance, enabling him to make 9 of 12 field goals, including 2 of 3 three-point shots. Finished with 21 points and eight rebounds.
3 - Landen Lucas: Blocked UConn’s first shot, a Sterling Gibbs drive, to let the Huskies know right off the bat that points in the paint would not come easily. One of the nation’s most improved players finished with six points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and a steal. In the first half, he had almost as many rebounds (eight) as the entire UConn team (11).
4 - Devonté Graham: Made 2 of 5 three-pointers on the way to 13 points, five rebounds and a huge steal he turned into a lob for Selden.
5 - Frank Mason III: Rough shooting night (1 for 8), but he mixed it up and chased down five rebounds and made 5 of 5 free throws.
6 - Jamari Traylor: Had three blocked shots, including one heard ’round the world, a line drive that whistled out of bounds. Definitely energizes team on the defensive end.
7 - Carlton Bragg: Went after offensive rebounds hard during his four minutes. Missed a put-back, retrieved his own miss and put it off the glass and in for a bucket.
8 - Brannen Greene: Scoreless in nine minutes with one rebound, he did not attempt any shots.
9 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Scoreless in six minutes, he missed his only shot, had a turnover and made 1 of 2 free throws.

Svi Mykhailiuk puts on show in first-round blowout
1 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Caught fire catching-and-shooting from deep in the corner, dribbled into buckets, got up high on a slam and generally showed off the tools that NBA scouts find intriguing on his way to career-high 23 points (9 of 11 field goals, 4 of 5 threes). Smooth operator.
2 - Landen Lucas: Played just 14 minutes, time enough to produce career-high 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Made 6 of 7 field goals.
3 - Perry Ellis: I think I saw him make a spin move into a jump hook on the right block, but I’m not sure because I blinked. What’s a defender to do? He has such a strong game, beginning with how swiftly he races down the court. Made 8 of 12 field goals and scored 21 points.
4 - Jamari Traylor: Hustled all-out to dominate the offensive boards in the first half, demoralizing the Governors. Scoreless, he played big with nine rebounds and two blocked shots in 18 minutes.
5 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Hit his first NCAA Tournament three-pointer on the game’s first possession. Finished with 14 points in 19 minutes. Made more field goals (5 of 10) in this one than previous four tourney games (4 of 16).
6 - Devonté Graham: Scoreless, he was more concerned with setting up teammates, which he did with six assists. Did not turn it over.
7 - Frank Mason III: Spring didn’t quite seem to be 100 percent there. Hip? Foot? Or maybe the competitive fires weren’t stoked because they didn’t need to be for Kansas to cruise to easy victory. Had nine points, four assists and one turnover.
8 - Cheick Diallo: Didn’t get in until late in the game and was extremely active, producing nine points, four rebounds and a blocked shot.
9 - Lagerald Vick: Perfect shooting day from inside the arc, outside it and at the free-throw line on way to seven points in 10 minutes. Also mixed in two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
10 - Carlton Bragg: Four points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal. And, but of course, three personal fouls in nine minutes.
11 - Brannen Greene: Playing through a sore back, Greene hustled his way to four assists and three steals. Feed to Diallo for a dunk was a beauty.
12 - Hunter Mickelson: Played five minutes, committed four fouls and made 1 of 5 shots. Nobody could accuse him of spectating on the floor.

Devonté Graham outstanding as KU beats WVU
1 - Devonté Graham: Made his first five three-pointers, attempted just 10 field goals and scored 27 points. Added five rebounds and and four steals. Made 6 of 10 shots, 5 of 6 threes, 10 of 10 free throws. Kansas needed someone to have a huge game to counter the one West Virginia center Devin Williams produced (31 points, 10 rebounds). Was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
2 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Has a knack for showing up in the right place defensively to thwart plans. He also had his three-point touch working, none bigger than the one that fell through the hoop as the shot clock expired. The shot, taken from in front of KU’s bench, gave Kansas an eight-point lead with 2:41 left. Had it missed and West Virginia took it the other way for a bucket, who knows?
3 - Perry Ellis: Scored 17 points and averaged 19.3 points for the tournament. Made 5 of 11 field goals and 7 of 7 free throws.
4 - Frank Mason III: Questionable for the game because of a bruised left (top) foot, Mason decided to give it a try after it felt “decent,” in warmups. He played 38 minutes. Had seven assists and just two turnovers against West Virginia’s relentless pressure.
5 - Landen Lucas: Fouled out in 24 minutes and totaled six points and seven rebounds. Couldn’t contain West Virginia’s Devin Williams (31 points, 10 rebounds), but neither could anyone else in the tournament.
6 - Carlton Bragg: Played 31 minutes in the tournament and totaled 24 points and 13 personal fouls.
7 - Brannen Greene: Made his only three-pointer, dribbling into it. Also had a pair of assists and a pair of turnovers.
8 - Jamari Traylor: Had three turnovers and three personal fouls, one point and one rebound in nine minutes.
9 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Played three minutes and missed his only shot, a three-pointer.

Once again, Perry Ellis carries KU to victory
1 - Perry Ellis: Scored 20 points in 25 minutes, giving him 41 points for the Big 12 Tournament.
2 - Wayne Selden Jr.: He made a nice poster with a high-flying one-handed jam over Ishmail Wainright. Selden also played such strong defense that his second consecutive 0-for-3-from-three night was beside the point on an 11-point night.
3 - Devonté Graham: Made many confident passes on the fly, most notably a lob from long distance thrown down by Carlton Bragg. Graham’s really pushing the pace, cranking up the energy at both ends. He totaled 14 points (3 of 7 threes), eight assists, four rebounds and four steals in 38 minutes.
4 - Frank Mason III: Another very efficient game for the junior guard resulted in nine points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal. He made 4 of 6 shots and 1 of 2 three-pointers.
5 - Carlton Bragg: He had just one double-figures scoring output in the regular season and now has three. Has scored 22 points in 21 minutes and has committed nine fouls. Bragg did not have a rebound against Kansas State and had seven against Baylor.
6 - Jamari Traylor: Scored just one point and had trouble holding onto the ball, but still managed six rebounds and lent strong defense (one steal one block) in 19 minutes.
7 - Landen Lucas: Baylor has high-flying, quick athletes making things happen near the rim, so the Bears aren’t the best matchup for Lucas. Still, he contributed seven rebounds, a blocked shot and three steals on a night he didn’t attempt a field goal and made just 1 of 4 shots from the line.
8 - Hunter Mickelson: Made both free throws.
9 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Turned it over three times and committed three fouls in 10 minutes.
10 - Brannen Greene: Off night from three (0 for 2), from the line (2 for 4) and securing the ball (two turnovers) in six minutes.
11 - Cheick Diallo: Played one minute and committed two fouls during the late implosion. His handlers won’t like hearing this: NBA scouts are unimpressed.
12 - Lagerald Vick: Committed a foul in one minute during the late collapse.

Frank Mason shows few flaws against K-State
1 - Frank Mason III: Played extremely efficient game at both ends and finished with 16 points and seven assists and made 6 of 8 shots.
2 - Perry Ellis: Completely shut down Dean Wade (five points) and was too quick for any Kansas State defender who tried to guard him. Had 21 points, six rebounds and two steals and made 8 of 11 field goals.
3 - Devonté Graham: Was best player on the floor at both ends in the first half, when he scored all 11 of his points and swiped two of his three steals. Had eight assists and one turnover.
4 - Carlton Bragg: Fouled out in 11 minutes, time enough to score 12 points. Made 5 of 6 shots and both three-pointers. Looked good running the break, catching and finishing, shooting from the perimeter and doing everything on the offensive end. He was targeted successfully at the other end.
5 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Looked so smooth in totaling six points, four rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes. Took two shots, both three-point swishes.
6 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Shot looked too flat and he made 1 of 6 overall and misfired a trio of three-pointers. Did nice job of setting up teammates, including a no-look beauty of a pass to Jamari Traylor, one of Selden’s three assists.
7 - Jamari Traylor: Whistled for four fouls in 14 minutes and turned it over three times, but also blocked two shots, scored six points and picked up four rebounds.
8 - Landen Lucas: Had four points and four rebounds in 17 minutes and played a part in D.J. Johnson not getting a rebound.
9 - Hunter Mickelson: Hustled way to two points, a block, a steal and three rebounds in six minutes.
10 - Brannen Greene: Had two points and five rebounds in 10 minutes.
11 - Lagerald Vick: Played three minutes, time enough to get up two shots, neither of which went in.

Perry Ellis establishes assertive offense for Kansas in rout
1 - Perry Ellis: Made 9 of 11 shots, drove the ball aggressively, using his superior quickness to get to the hoop and made his lone three-point shot attempt. Ellis scored a game-high 20 points and had four rebounds and four assists.
2 - Frank Mason III: Knew when to pull up and shoot, and when to drive to the hoop. Made great decisions all night, did a terrific job of keeping Isaiah Taylor from scoring (five points, 1 of 10 shots, one assist) and from breaking down the defense to set up teammates. Mason made 5 of 6 shots and all three three-point shots.
3 - Devonté Graham: Played aggressively at both ends and contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals, but also turned it over four times. Graham made 4 of 6 field goals and 3 of 4 three-pointers.
4 - Landen Lucas: Set the defensive tone early, picking up three of his five blocked shots during the 15-0 start to the game. He also had eight points and eight rebounds. He’s played so well the second half of the season. Amazing improvement.
5 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Shot looked better and he made 2 of 5 three-pointers on his way to a nine-point night.
6 - Jamari Traylor: Quick, somebody check to see if he has landed yet from that lob he threw down. It’s not often players soar that high during a game. Wow! Scored eight points and defended well in 15 minutes, but didn’t have a rebound.
7 - Brannen Greene: Productive 11-minute effort. He totaled five points and four rebounds.
8 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Had three fouls, two points and two assists in 13 minutes.
9 - Carlton Bragg: Fought as hard on the floor for a loose ball as a player can fight. Also picked up two rebounds, two fouls, an assist and a steal.
10 - Hunter Mickelson: In four minutes, came away with a pair of rebounds and a fluid late-game dunk. Also missed a pair of free throws.
11 - Lagerald Vick: Played three minutes and made his only shot, a three-pointer, naturally.
12 - Cheick Diallo: Played three minutes and made 2 of 4 free throws.

Svi Mykhailiuk’s shooting highlights KU victory over Tech
1 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Missed his final shot when a drive trickled out. Otherwise he would have had a perfect shooting day. He made 6 of 7 shots, including 5 of 5 three-pointers. His pull-up jumper inside the semi-circle reeked of confidence. Looks more sure of himself than ever. All in all, not bad for an 18-year-old basketball player.
2 - Frank Mason III: Hustled down a loose ball to keep it from going out of bounds and made the pass that was available, a behind-the-back beauty to Devonté Graham, who fed Wayne Selden Jr., who completed the play with a reverse layup. Also made 3 of 5 three-pointers on way to 16-point, two-steal day.
3 - Jamari Traylor: Made play of the day when he ripped away offensive rebound on missed free throw and immediately fed Svi for a three. Produced three points, three rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in 13 energetic minutes off the bench.
4 - Devonté Graham: Four assists against just one turnover and two steals compensated for off day from three (1 for 4). Showed serious quickness in finishing drive to hoop through traffic.
5 - Landen Lucas: Produced seven points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes.
6 - Cheick Diallo: Hustled his way to two points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in 13 minutes.
7 - Perry Ellis: Couldn’t get shots to drop (4 of 13) and scored just eight points with five boards in 28 minutes.
8 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Slumping shooters go through phases that leave them aiming instead of shooting. Selden’s in one of those phases. He made 1 of 8 field goals, 1 of 4 free throws and missed all four three-point attempts. Didn’t show great shot selection in this one.
9 - Carlton Bragg: Turned beautiful post feed from Brannen Greene into two points and picked up a rebound in five-minute run.
10 - Brannen Greene: Limited to three minutes, he made the only two shots he took, both free throws.

Frank Mason III ‘a pit bull’ in Jayhawks’ victory over Bears
1 - Frank Mason III: Runners, teardrops, floaters, whatever you prefer to call them, Mason was making them. The junior guard shot 7-for-11 at Baylor, and made two of his four attempts from three-point range, while adding four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 37 minutes. Bill Self rightfully called Mason “a pit bull,” and KU’s MVP in the win.
2 - Devonté Graham: Hit a big three-pointer late, had seven assists and just two turnovers, and made 3 of 7 shots, all three-pointers.
3 - Perry Ellis: Totaled 15 points, three assists and two blocked shots, but only had two rebounds.
4 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Best player on the floor for the final few minutes. In the final 2:25 he picked up two offensive rebounds and scored four of his six points. Played a great defensive job all night against Taurean Prince (4 of 13).
5 - Landen Lucas: Huge steal with score tied at 55-55 and then scored on a put-back at other end with three minutes left. Followed it up with a defensive rebound. Picked up five of his 10 rebounds and 3 of his 5 points in the final 4:52. Rough, rough game until he played great down the stretch. For much of the night, Baylor front court players used superior quickness and explosiveness to beat him to rebounds. Bears dared him to shoot and he made just 2 of 6. After shooting an air-ball from the baseline, he passed up wide-open shots. That he could finish in such dominant fashion after playing so poorly much of the night is a testament to his toughness and maturity. He has plenty of both.
6 - Jamari Traylor: Turned it over twice, but also had a blocked shot, a steal, four points and a rebound. Committed four fouls in 12 minutes.
7 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Played nine minutes, made a couple of nice passes and finished with three points and an assist. Made one of two three-pointers, both good shots.
8 - Brannen Greene: Made one of two shots, and hit a three-pointer, but played just seven minutes.
9 - Cheick Diallo: Blocked a shot, committed a foul and turned it over in two minutes of action.
10 - Carlton Bragg: Couldn’t finish in-bounds play that resulted with him with ball under hoop after cutting to the hoop.

Frank Mason III takes over key stretches of rivalry victory
1 - Frank Mason III: Took over the game in key stretches, showing he has his zip back. Even when teammates lost their composure, he kept his and finished with 16 points, five assists, two steals and just one turnover. In a statistical oddity for the high-flying point guard, he did not have a rebound.
2 - Landen Lucas: Played just 13 minutes, but made a big impact before fouling out. During his time on the floor, Kansas outscored Kansas State by 15 points. When he watched, Kansas State outscored KU by six points. It was a physical game, which is always to Lucas’ liking. He’s the team’s best rebounder and post defender.
3 - Perry Ellis: Suffered a gash on the head that required stitches and a scratch to the eye that is cause for concern. Ellis still made an impact with 14 points, two assists and a steal in 30 minutes.
4 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Played a terrific all-around game, which just might give his confidence the boost it needed. Made 3 of 4 three-pointers, didn’t turn it over and contributed nine points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
5 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Drove hard to the hoop early and scored 8 of his 12 points in the first half. Didn’t have quite the same approach in the second half and took an ill-advised three when a drive was the right play. Had a good night on the boards, picking up five.
6 - Jamari Traylor: Fouled out after a productive 17 minutes that included six points, three rebounds, a blocked shot and a wild dunk that will show up early in his career highlight video.
7 - Devonté Graham: Rough shooting day, making 1 of 6 field goals and coming up empty on four three-pointers. Also turned it over five times.
8 - Hunter Mickelson: Had a key defection late and picked up one rebound in five minutes.
9 - Carlton Bragg: Played 12 minutes and totaled two points, three rebounds and two turnovers. Missed both of his free throws.
10 - Brannen Greene: Played five minutes and missed his only shot, a three. Committed two turnovers and two personal fouls. Needs to forget this one and play with confidence built in recent games.
11 - Cheick Diallo: Played two minutes and missed an ill-advised, fading shot in the paint.

Landen Lucas keeps rebounding, improving
1 - Landen Lucas: Scored a career-high 14 points and produced his third consecutive double-figure rebounding game with 10 boards, five off the offensive glass. Lucas is KU’s most improved player and he vows he eventually will hit an open jumper.
2 - Frank Mason III: He and fellow perimeter starters Devonté Graham and Wayne Selden Jr. combined for 92 minutes without turning it over once. Mason had some tough rebounds in traffic and finished with 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. He seems fresher than when he was playing through a lot of pain in his left elbow.
3 - Wayne Selden Jr.: Shook a slow start and heated up, making 4 of 7 three-pointers. He produced 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.
4 - Brannen Greene: Made the most of his 18 minutes with 11 points and five rebounds. Compensated for defensive lapses by shooting 3 of 3 from three and had a particularly stylish celebration of his three at the end of the first half. Think: cowboy with two pistols spinning. I wonder if he watches a lot of Westerns.
5 - Perry Ellis: Overcame rough first half (1 for 7) to finish with 15 points, but had just four rebounds in 25 minutes.
6 - Devonté Graham: Followed the game of his life in Norman, where he was the best player on the floor at both ends in both halves, with a solid performance. Totaled 10 points and made 2 of 5 three-pointers. Took an ill-advised three-pointer early in the clock, up 11 points with 14 minutes left in the game.
7 - Carlton Bragg: Played seven minutes, scored six points and gave up four at the other end. A talented scorer gifted with a soft shooting touch, Bragg projects to develop into a star once he figures out how to defend and rebound against other big, quick players.
8 - Jamari Traylor: Had two points, a rebound and a blocked shot in 13 minutes.
9 - Cheick Diallo: Played a scoreless seven minutes with two turnovers, but also blocked three shots and had five rebounds.
10 - Hunter Mickelson: Was whistled for a foul on a clean blocked shot. He can’t seem to catch a break in the blocked-shot department. Statisticians will miss one here and there and refs will steal from him as well. He’s a nice guy. Cut him a break!
11 - Svi Mykhailiuk: Played three minutes and hustled.
12 - Lagerald Vick: I can’t remember who was standing alone in the right corner, but he should have passed it to him because he was wide open. Instead he jacked a shot and missed. Not good.
