Tarik Black top Jayhawk in season finale

1 - Tarik Black: Lone senior played an outstanding game, doing everything he could to bring his team to his hometown of Memphis for the South regional, but didn’t get enough help to make it happen. Had 18 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes before fouling out.

2 - Conner Frankamp: Scored 12 points, six in the first half, six in the second, all on three-pointers. He made two threes in the final 3:34 of the first half, plus had a rebound and a steal in that stretch. He added two threes in the final 25 seconds of the second half, but was guarded too tightly to get anything resembling a good look and forced one up to try to tie the score. Increased his single-game career-high in both games of the tournament.

3 - Perry Ellis: Missed some easy shots on his way to a nine-point, eight-rebound effort. Had three turnovers and made just 3 of 10 shots.

4 - Frank Mason: Defended well and contributed two rebounds, two assists and a steal, but couldn’t get his shots to drop, going 0 for 4 from the floor, 0 for 3 from three and 2 for 2 from the line.

5 - Wayne Selden: Had three steals, but made just 1 of 5 shots and picked up four personal fouls in 18 minutes of action. Outside shot needs work.

6 - Naadir Tharpe: Had five points, two assists and a steal in 26 minutes. Will face a tough challenge from Frankamp and Mason in competing to keep his starting job at point guard.

7 - Jamari Traylor: Played well when Kansas applied full-court pressure and picked up two steals. But he also turned it over three times and made just 1 of 8 shots. Had five rebounds.

8 - Andrew Wiggins: Rough swan song for the freshman, who played tight. Limited to four points, four rebounds and two assists, Wiggins faced a defense that took away his driving lanes. Even when he did get to the hoop, he couldn’t finish and he couldn’t get his perimeter jumpers to fall.

9 - Landen Lucas: Threw down a dunk during his two minutes on floor.

10 - Brannen Greene: Played three minutes.

Jamari Traylor’s career-highs put him atop ratings

1 - Jamari Traylor: He never looked more athletic, stronger, more bursting with energy, than he did on his way to a 17-point, 14-rebound effort in 22 strong minutes. He made 7 of 8 field goals, blocked a shot and assisted two baskets. Two of his seven offensive boards came off missed free throws. One of them resulted in the signature play of his career. In a blink, he was above the rim, slamming home the miss with two hands, his knees folded toward his chest. Amazing play.

2 - Conner Frankamp: Kansas was caving to the Colonels' extended pressure defense until Frankamp entered the game and everything changed. He calmly found the open man and hit mid-range jumpers. His 25 minutes, 10 points and four assists all were career-highs on a night he extended his streak of minutes without a turnover to 122.

3 - Perry Ellis: Eastern Kentucky was vulnerable inside and Ellis capitalized with 14 points, 13 rebounds and active defense. He contributed two steals and several key deflections.

4 - Andrew Wiggins: Just when you think you have seen him soar as high as man can, he climbs a little higher to catch a lob and throw it down as he did for one of his four dunks.  Led KU with 19 points.

5 - Tarik Black: Had four of KU’s 11 dunks and made all six field-goal attempts. Totaled 12 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots, firing up teammates with every loud contribution.

6 - Wayne Selden: Didn’t have a field goal or a rebound, but played strong second-half defense and did a nice job of getting the ball into the hands of KU’s bigs so they could use their size advantage to take over the game. Had four assists and one turnover.

7 - Frank Mason: Played nine minutes, time enough to contribute two points, four rebounds and four assists.

8 - Naadir Tharpe: Rough, rough first half in which he turned it over four times in 10 minutes, but he bounced back with a strong second half that did not include a turnover. Made 2 of 3 shots on the night.
