Ellis, Mason, Selden lead KU in Orlando opener

By Staff     Nov 27, 2014

**1 – Perry Ellis:** Did a terrific job of posting up and dunking with authority. Played very much like the go-to guy his coach wants him to be and did a nice job of helping off onto Rhode Island’s E.C. Matthews when he got to the paint. Foul trouble limited Ellis to 24 minutes, time enough to total 17 points and four rebounds.

**2 – Frank Mason III:** Did a nice job of running the team and hitting shots, especially late in the shot clock. Totaled 12 points, five assists and a steal without turning it over in 30 minutes. Made both three-pointers and both free throws.

**3 – Wayne Selden Jr.:** Did a nice job checking E.C. Matthews by keeping him from going left a lot. When Matthews blew past him, Selden received help from experienced big men. Contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal and had just one turnover in 37 minutes.

**4 – Cliff Alexander:** Picked up two quick fouls, which limited him to six first-half minutes off the bench. Played aggressively in a strong second half. Scored well and rebounded well in traffic and totaled nine points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes on the night.

**5 – Devonté Graham:** Aggravated his shoulder in the second half and still was able to re-enter the game. Made strong contributions in multiple ways when he was on the floor. Scored 10 points, despite attempting only two field goals, both of which he made, one from long range. Played 15 minutes and didn’t turn it over. Uses his quick hands the way Brady Morningstar used to, pecking at the basketball to annoy the man he’s guarding.

**6 – Landen Lucas:** Started and played 16 minutes. Did a nice job of playing help defense and totaled four points and four rebounds with two steals.

**7 – Brannen Greene:** Didn’t have a great shooting night but brought energy and attentiveness on defense. Made just 2 of 8 shots, but was 2 of 5 from three. Looks more comfortable than as a freshman.

**8 – Jamari Traylor:** Had a couple of defensive lapses and had four personal fouls and three turnovers in 16 minutes. Also had two blocked shots and two steals on a night he totaled six points and four rebounds.

**9 – Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk:** Moves so well without the ball, or with it for that matter, but hasn’t mastered the art of slowing himself down in time to square himself for his shots. Once he makes that adjustment, he’ll start making shots.

**10 – Kelly Oubre Jr.:** Transition to the perimeter going slowly so far. Played just four minutes, turned it over twice and committed three fouls.

**11 – Hunter Mickelson:** Picked up a rebound and couldn’t convert a shot in three minutes.
