Obviously, no two situations are alike when coaching changes are made in college football. Some coaches inherit worst situations than others. David Beaty inherited a tough challenge in large part because predecessor Charlie Weis recruited too many transfers and left the cupboard bare, particularly at offensive line.

Still, I thought it would be interesting to see how other schools that made coaching changes after the 2014 season have fared.

All computer rankings have flaws, but I've always considered the Sagarin predictor to be the best in both college football and basketball.

At 3-9 you wouldn't think things could get much worse. Three years later and we are proved wrong. Oh well, we're stuck with Beaty for now. Hopefully he figures it our or else it'll be another wasted year.

Cary Ediger 1 year ago

Good lord Tom, enough is enough. Move on and find something else.

John Fitzgerald 1 year ago

It's not Tom's fault the stats are there. It's his job to report them. Seems your displeasure is being directed towards the wrong person(s).

Cary Ediger 1 year ago

Time for a new chew bone, he can move on after reporting the same old stuff... Hell at this point he can just copy paste.

John Fitzgerald 1 year ago

What else is there to report? There’s not a lot of positivity in 3-33. And you people will cry when he’s too positive anyways. My advice if you don’t like the articles move along.

Kevin Robert Fest 1 year ago

Is the weather man being negative when he has to report nothing but bad weather? He's just doing his job. The team is horrible and that starts with the coch.

Cary Ediger 1 year ago

Tom has beaten this "weather report" to death, he is a sports reporter and he has made his point.

He can move on now to reporting sports.

John Fitzgerald 1 year ago

He reports what’s there. You do the same thing at your job every day. Is there a crazy lady like you complaining because of it?

Cary Ediger 1 year ago

Yes, he reports the same thing.... Day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day. He wants a new coach.

Volleyball is still going, basketball.. heck do a story on the 101 year old KU fan that was at the game.

I like some of Tom's work, he is just beating a dead dog at this point.

Brian Wilson 1 year ago

OK TOM, How many of these teams had less than 65 players on scholarship while having to recruit 25 walk-ons back in 2015?

Craig Goscha 1 year ago

Haha - We could go get John Currie for an AD ( he is a proven football guy) and he could hire the next KU coach - maybe.

Dale Rogers 1 year ago

He's the same guy who not long ago was fired by K-State, right? I assume so and your post was tongue-in-cheek.

[''] 1 year ago

Currie created a dumpster fire at Tennessee. He would only make things worse...if that's even possible.

Lucas Town 1 year ago

Currie might do just that if he tried to tamper with the men's basketball team.

Get the guy at Troy, the guy at S.E. Buford we are sinking.

Brett McCabe 1 year ago

The problem with these numbers is that they don't take into account a few key things:

One, we're building it right. Those other guys ahead of us? All wrong.

Two, those programs haven't #earnedit.

Three, those programs don't have a #neatdeal like we have.

For those who think enough is enough, they are wrong. Every column Tom has written has had a different factual component. I heard him on the radio and he talked about putting pros on one side and cons on the others. He said that the paper wasn't long enough for all of the cons. Thankfully, the LJW is a daily paper, so we can get all the cons listed.

Tom just needs to go home to his trailer in North Lawrence, drink a beer and play with little willy.

Brett McCabe 1 year ago

It takes a little willy to know a little willy.

George Johnston 1 year ago

John, do you really think that rude insults are persuasive? Tom presents facts and numbers and this is the best you can come up with? Your insults lack relevance, creativity, and intelligence. Have you considered using facts and reason? Every KU graduate should learn and employ critical thinking skills.

John Fitzgerald 1 year ago

Do we all remember what this guy looks like? I’ll remind you.... look quickly because they’ll delete it.

Cary Ediger 1 year ago

Is there not something in the ToS regarding this ? 2nd time I've seen JF do this.

Jeff Coffman 1 year ago

Can we sue BGL for these contract extensions? Can we reassess the Board of Directors for KU? The contract for Beaty will cost the school in just salary...$3.1MM in additional salary, whereas Zenger will cost $2MM in additional costs.

Jeff Coffman 1 year ago

Beaty is told his coaching is unacceptable by Zenger. Zenger does nothing.

Zenger says we would like to see better performance from our past coaches. Girod does nothing.

Girod is silent about KU football and a poorly performing AD. KU Board of Directors, please start holding our 3 of the 4 highest paid personnel at KU accountable for their performance.

Clint Bowen - Salary $400,000.

Kurtis Townsend and Norm Roberts - Salary $325,000 each.

Dirk Medema 1 year ago

Are Kurtis and Norm Clint's peers? Proximity wise, yes, but not so much otherwise.

Why don't you try comparing Clint against his true peers, or maybe even HC Beatty against Clint's peers. That would be closer. Did you see where Jimbo's assistants are making somewhere between $5M & $8M annually?

Tom is kind of a poor man's Clay Travis. He makes a lot of noise like Travis. Only problem is no one of consequence listens to him.

Brett McCabe 1 year ago

And no one with a brain listens to Travis. That air bag has to be the worst thing to happen to broadcast sports since Kevin Kietzman.

Brett McCabe 1 year ago

Just watched a freshman catch a touchdown for TCU. Saw sophomore Amani Bledsoe get a sack and cause a fumble. I guess you don't have to be a senior to perform on the football field.

Jeff Coffman 1 year ago

3 true freshman playing in OU's backfield... oh sorry starting... they beat out the starters.
