Obama's bracket has KU losing in Sweet 16

Blog: Heard on the Hill

The President of the United States has revealed his bracket — he predicts Kansas will play to its seed, losing to second-seeded Michigan State in the Sweet 16.

It's a rather indecisive bracket, with several question marks and scratching out of teams and writing new ones. At one point, the leader of the free world appeared to cross out Clemson and write in Clemson again.

Obama's national champion is North Carolina, though he apparently thought at one point that Roy Williams' team would lose to Pittsburgh in the Final Four, and again to Louisville in the championship game.

So far, the bracket is 0-1, however. Obama picked Alabama State as the winner of the NCAA opening round game, even though Morehead State prevailed.

Did Bush ever fill out a bracket? I've been hearing about Obama's love for hoops since I started hearing about him as a candidate. I know Bush attended some Baylor games, and that was pretty well covered.

If the President shares his bracket, it's (fluff) sports news.

Hopefully, Sherron and Cole will get to meet two presidents during their college career.

I know that Osama Bin Laden picked Mizzou to upset West Virginia in the NC game, but the crappy cave video was too fuzzy to make out the rest of his bracket.

How can you be a Jayhawk and not a liberal? After all Lawrence is the counterculture mecca of the great plains. It is the most free thinking town, the only free thinking town in all of Kansas.

jayhawkdandy (anonymous) says...

Congrats Eurekahwk, you get the award for idiot poster of the day. Most KU fans don't live in Lawrence, and considering how red the state is, I would assume more fans are conservative than liberal. Kansas City Kansas is also politically blue, if that's what free thinking is, then you can have it. What a dump. Also hawk is spelled h-A-w-k, apparently your free thinking doesn't involve vowels. Idiot

Being a Jayhawk isn't about political affiliation. It's about rooting for the best university in the nation.

One more time. The President, whoever he may be, should stick to official business. God knows there is way too much of it to tend to. I don't want to hear one more thing about what any politician, especially a president, thinks about college football playoffs, college bball playoffs, etc. The world can laugh about what our president takes time to make public. He should be presidential, not Vitalential.
I don't care whether Lawrence is free-thinking, liberal, conservative, as long as we try to remain a free democracy. I don't care what the pres thinks about basketball. I care what he thinks about Osama. Get the point? And being a Jayhawk is not about being a liberal, I'm sorry to say, mr. eureka. take politics to political boards, not here. All I want to know is whether you are a Jayhawk... or a slimey tiger lily.
By the way, I think the counter-cluture happened about 40 years ago...
When I went to the orange bowl and the final four, I didn't give a hoot whether you were pro-this or contra-that... just whether you were the right blue. It is ludicrous to suggest KU is full of liberals anyway. I think our business school provides many graduates for the business world, and for whatever makes it work. I'm not certain liberal ideas get that done, but regardless, doesn't matter much when Cole is dunking on their head!

Dang Jayhawk Dandy, you make it seem that you haven't been to Lawrence at all, and if you have you would understand what he meant by free thinking right off the bat, and and another part where you're incorrect pretty much all of the conservatives are K-state fans.

And about 97% of L-town is Crimson and Blue

And his name is obviously short for Eureka Hawk

So don't call people idiot, idiot.

Mizzousucks, I lived in Lawrence & Eudora for 9 years until this January. I received my doctorate from KU also. But you're right, I dont know anything about it. I lived in a bubble.

Being a freak on Mass Street doesn't get an automatic classification for Free Thinking.

Do you have data to support that pretty much all of the conservatives are K-state fans?

I now live in a fairly conservative county now, but there are lots of KU fans who are politically conservative as well as liberal folks who are huge K-state backers. My point, it doesn't matter what political persuasion you are, if you're a Jayhawk, you're good enough for me.

So you're good enough for me too, idiot.

Sorry to keep this going but...

There were a LOT more conservatives at KU (thank God) than I had expected when I arrived there, given the reputation of Lawrence, at least among political science students. Not that it matters anyway. It is just ignorant to make the assumption that because Lawrence has hippies, everyone is liberal. Is everyone in Kansas a Jayhawk? Somehow, no.

Back on topic, which is SPORTS, he gets a lot of attention because he has demanded it, even during the campaign he was complaining about a playoff in college football. The media is all over him, sure, but HE gave THEM the bracket to print. What is wrong with that?

I remember quite often hearing about Bush's sports interests....

1. He owned the Texas Rangers, and rooted for them often.

2. He's a Texas Longhorns fan, and did the hook 'em horns sign once with his daughter, and people in Europe were like "WTF!" because that's the satan symbol there. Haha.

3. Bush often liked to relax and watch a ball game here and there. Like that time he choked on the pretzel, he was watching sports.

so yeah.....every president has some sort of non-political coverage. not a big deal whether you like the person or not, who cares?

Obama's in a bit of a quandry. He built massive support by extremely over-exaggerating how bad the economy is and likened it to the Great Depression (under 10% unemployment in no way compares to over 30%!), but now consumer confidence is SO LOW that he has to find something he can take credit for to try to build the confidence back that he himself eroded! (I know the economy as a whole stinks now and many people are hurting from it- that's not my point...it's that it was grossly exaggerated).

Also- KU losing to Michigan State? Wow...does he not know how mediocre the Big Ten is this year?

Having lived in Lawrence, I would agree there were a lot of free-thinkers...they delivered pizza to my apartment every week! (that's a joke...don't take it seriously!)

Hawkitup- that 'redistribution of points' was the funniest comment I've read in awhile...good one!

So.....

You Jayhawks are letting politics divide you? Laaaaame. If you were all in a bar with KU shirts you'd be buddy-buddy with each other, but it's all anonymous so everyone lets loose like crazy and really dumbs down these boards.

I'm pretty "liberal" on some issues (am non-religious, am concerned about the environment, can't stand the "Religious Right") and "conservative" on others (not a fan of taxes per se, don't think guns should be banned, am against Spanish as a second language). Does that really matter on these boards though?

But does it all really matter? We're Jayhawks here. Why doesn't everyone just drift over to other articles and talk about other stuff besides Obama being a Muslim or socialist (unoriginal and overused comments) or Bush being a Nazi (equally stupid).

I'd rather everyone debate about Cole Aldrich's intensity, Coach Self's recruiting, KU's tourney prospects, or something vaguely resembling kusports.

First off, how are all y'all "conservatives" enjoying the second "Republican Great Depression?" Kinda sucks seeing all the new "Bushville" homeless encampments wherever you go. But to sports, which is why we're here; Obama was and is a basketball player. Bush was and is a cheerleader and mass murderer. That Obama didn't pick KU to win it all last year and go further in the tourney this year is sad since his Mama was a Kansan like mine was. Too long in Chicago I guess. My best guess as to how the "Shrub" would have filled out his brackets is that his crayon broke before he finished the first round, he started crying and Laura and uncle Dick had to put him down for a nap so he never finished it. When he got up, he had a cookie and went for a bike ride. Fascinating man, that!
