Looks like Kansas University product Drew Gooden is about to sign with his seventh NBA team in eight seasons.
According to ESPN, Gooden has signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
On Mavs owner Mark Cuban's Twitter feed, he wrote "Dallas here I come!!! Welcome Drew..!"
Gooden's Twitter feed read "Dallas here I come" early Sunday morning.
Gooden will likely compete with Erick Dampier for a spot in the starting lineup. The Mavs were looking for another big man after losing out out on the services of Marcin Gortat, who remained with Orlando after the Magic matched the Mavs' offer of five years and $34 million for Gortat to be Dwight Howard's backup.
Dallas also lost power forward Brandon Bass in the offseason to Orlando.
I'd think the Mavs' starting lineup at this point would be Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki and either Dampier or Gooden. Not a bad squad with sixth man of the year Jason Terry coming off the bench.
You guys think this is a good fit for Gooden?
As always, discuss.
P.S. — I may not be able to interact a ton this morning because I'm in the process of doing my own "Dallas here I come" impression in catching a flight for Big 12 football media days. I should be around later this afternoon, though. It just seems wrong to be up this early. It's still dark out!

Gooden should beat Dampier out easily for the starting job...I live in Dallas and the people blame dampier for losing to the nuggets because he was too slow and not productive...Gooden needs to be able to develop with a team for the next five years...he needs to get comfortable with a franchise.

Yes, daverinoku, I agree: who cares about Gooden when you can gawk at the EVONY babe to the right of this article. Wonder if she is going to Dallas too? If so, I will buy a ticket to Dallas tonight.

Gooden is not a center. He won't be competing aginst Dampier. He'll be playing behind Nowitzki and Marion

mighty,
Wrong. Nowitzki will be the center and Gooden will be the Power Forward...trust me, they brought Gooden in to basically replace Dampier...the fans hate Dampier down here and gooden will be a solid player before the mass free agency of 2010...and plus even if Gooden played the 5 he would grab more boards and score more than Dampier and that is why he will start in Dallas.
