Zac Hunter chips in his two cents while bloggin' from Boston. One more week. That's all any sports fan can really ask for. One more week to rock the replica jersey before you really start to look like a tool. One more week to talk with your buddies about how this might be the year. And one more week to dream of placing the commerative, leather-bound, Sports Illustrated on the mantle. You see, no team I have ever cheered for has won an overall championship. I moved to Kansas in 1989. Instead of Manning and the Miracles, I got Kevin Pritchard and probation. That that was a fun team to watch, but it was no championship team.I've got a bunch of Big 8/12 titles under my fan belt. I also have four Final Fours and a couple of title games, which is good for a lot of t-shirts and hats. But my mantle is still empty. And the Kansas City Chiefs are no help in the title department either. The Chiefs have sprinkled in the occasional AFC West title, but have won nothing of significance, namely the AFC, since Hank Stram had the Chiefs matriculating the ball down the field. It used to be heartbreaking when the Chiefs or 'Hawks were eliminated. But I'm over all that now. I don't need titles anymore. I've found something more important than leather-bound magazines, championships and bad t-shirts. I've found one more week. That's all I want every January for the Chiefs and every March for the Jayhawks. I just want one more week to read about my team. The weeks leading up to the Final Four in 2002 and 2003 were amazing. Food tasted better. The air was cleaner. And every day there was a reason to get out of bed excited. It's a great feeling to know the eyes of the sports world are all on your team. It's exciting when your team matters. I have no delusions that Kansas City is going to run off four wins in a row and win the Super Bowl. Teams with old men at quarterback, old men at cornerback and soft defensive tackles don't make a lot of noise in the playoffs. But I'm not looking for a Super Bowl. I'm looking for one more week. The Chiefs gave me that when they squeaked into the playoffs. And they might give me another week with a win at Indianapolis. And who knows, maybe one year, one more week will turn into a leather Sports Illustrated on my mantle.
