Sherron Collins - Can't Stop, Won't Stop...

Whew, what a stinker yesterday at The Sprint Center... I'm starting to wonder if KU should move games back to Kemper Arena when they play in KC...But seriously, after watching yesterday's game and how everybody looked completely helpless for the entire 40 minutes, coaches included, it's strikingly clear that KU needs somebody besides Sherron Collins to create his own shot... Sherron's never seen a buffet or a shot he didn't like, and both temptations can doom KU if not corrected... Fortunately, he's gotten away from the buffet, but Big Shot Sherron's love for contested, wild shots at the cost of running the offense is having a negative effect on the team because guys are standing around waiting for Big Shot to make a play... Now, don't get me wrong, this team is only going to go as far as Sherron takes them, and in KU's two losses, Sherron was all over the place - both positively and negatively... He's fierce, he gets in opponent's faces, he's our muscle - a good guy to have... But he needs a sidekick, and right now, he doesn't have one - and that's because nobody's stepped up and because Sherron is trying to will KU to victory on his own... While that's admirable, we all know that's not going to get it done...It's time to see Mario Little... This guy was brought in to provide scoring, playmaking and experience - which is precisely what this team needs while it continues to develop... And you've got to think that a guy who grew up watching MJ, he's from Chicago - we'll definitely have the grimiest backcourt in the Big 12 with he and Sherron - and has actually received pointers from MJ after playing with the Greatest of All Time, he'll bring a lift to this Kansas team... He can take the burden off of Collins feeling like he's got to score every time, and put at least a thought in opposing defenses that he's a threat to create his own offense... In the meantime, KU has the best big defensive man in college basketball, and Cole is still developing his offensive game... And that's the problem - and its not a bad problem to have - that this KU team is so young and all of these guys are still learning how to play together, and for these freshman, its finding out that the stuff that worked in high school doesn't work in big time college basketball - especially when you're wearing a Kansas jersey and you're the defending champion - everybody wants to say they beat Kansas...KU's going to be fine, the naysayers and haters are out arguing that because Self has lost out on some high school SGs this year, that all of a sudden he can't recruit - give me a break... There's not a school in America save for UNC and Duke that wouldn't want Self leading its program... Lets not forget - KU grabbed Shady and Brandon Rush well after the fall signing period, and that turned out OK... If there's one thing Bill Self has proved in six years here at Kansas - the guy is relentless, he brings in NBA-caliber recruits, he learns from his mistakes and most importantly - his teams always improve during the season... Well I liked and disliked some things you said. I think that SC will be a lead weight on this team until someone like you pointed out Little steps up. SC thinks he has to do everything but he really needs to give some more trust to the rest of his team. He does way to much and ends up screwing things up for us sometimes. When little comes back he can take some heat of collins and give someone for him to feel confidence in. Something else I would like to comment on is that you are right about the Self thing. KU is incredibly lucky to have him here. Anyone who thinks self cant recruit is slow in the head. He has gotten some incredible recruits. It shows when he won a National Championship already and how long did it take Roy to get one? Oh yeah he never did get us one. Self doesn't always get the the best recruits on paper but he gets what the team needs. Taylor was not that highly rated but he has come out here and really shown that he can and will be something. So if you think Self cant recruit then you really need to look at the big picture instead of a couple of lost recruits we couldn't close the deal with.
