Bill Self covered lotsa bases in this press conference. Two things in particular rang a bell with me. He was very emphatic that this squad does possess starpower...even though there is less of it than on most of his Jayhawk teams. Posters, including myself, have been rather harsh in repetitive comments about the lack of talent on this squad. I would say that, among our starters, any one of them would start for any other team in the league, except perhaps for Missouri which has its own distinct style of play, left over from the Mike Anderson years. Secondly, I liked Self's comment regarding his insisting that the Jayhawks work the ball into the paint following an opponent's successful 3 pt. shot. He pointed out that, all too often, the emotional response to an opponent's 3 is for the Jayhawks to race downcourt to fire up their own 3. Folks who have coached or played the game are well aware of such natural trends among competitive players, but for most of us armchair point guards Self's analysis leads to deeper understanding of coaching philosophy.
