KU Sports Extra — Alternators and Recruitinators

Tom and Matt are back to discuss Kansas basketball's upcoming games against Kansas State and Iowa State, and a little KU football, too. Plus, Tom makes up a word. If you have a question you'd like Tom and Matt to answer next week, leave it in the comments section below.

Lots of obnoxious people you could have gone with this week: Tom Brady, Bill B., Marshawn "Im just here so I dont get fined" Lynch, Josh Gordon,...take your pick. George Gervin's finger roll was the smoothest of all time.

Speaking of recruitinators, who do you suppose Bill Self will add to Carlton Bragg for 2015's recruiting class, and is there any shot at Thon Maker both reclassifying to 2015 and choosing Kansas?

I also wrote a fan blog (remember those?) and Ive not seen it appear in the tumbleroll or elsewhere. What's the deal-e-oh?

Hey, Joe.

Your blog is up near the top of this page:

Thanks for the question, too!

kusports used to feature blogs on the front page and/or tumble roll. Sure the blog is available, but it's located in a rather obscure place. Is the site discouraging blogging by keeping it on the back pages? Curious. It almost doesn't pay to blog anymore; that is, if the effort isn't rewarded by featuring or otherwise making the blogs available to the same audience that the other blogs are exposed to. Most readers don't click the "Staff Blogs" button because they are all available in the tumble roll. Quite unsatisfactory...

The two players I think that are most important that have us on their short list are:

Stephen Zimmerman, 7'0" Center from Las Vegas, Nevada He is the number 2 rated Center in the country and if we can land him for one to 3 years it would be huge. If we get him maybe Stephen is good enough to be one and done. But if not, then he can scrimmage then next year against Thon all year and split time and learn. If Thon doesn't come, we have a developing 7'0" center.

Ivan Rabb. At 6'11" and maybe still growing, he is a PF presence with size that perfectly fits Self's system. However he is the number 1 player at his position and I am not sure if we really need another one and doner next year when the PF position is already so crowded. But considering, Rabb would probably play Center in the twin posts, while waiting on Thon, he might be a better option at Center than Zimmerman in Self's system.

A third we should be going after as we do well with International students:

Giorgio Papagiannos, 7'2", A lesser known 4-star player rated in the top 10 as a center that is not on very many school's radar. An international player coming from Greece, he is developing and would possibly be a good fit coming off the bench getting 10 minutes a game until his Junior or Senior year. Temple and Arizona have shown early interest but Kentucky has recently shown interest. Self should call him up and go after him as well. He probably wants to start somewhere. But if he is willing to go to UK and come off then bench, then why not recruit him to come off the bench in Lawrence.

Swanigan and Diallo at this point are 6'9" tall and unless they sprout a bunch and grow I am not sure they add very much to a crowded list of 6'9" Junior PFs: Traylor, Ellis, Mickelson, & or Newcomer Alexander and developing Lucas.

I could list others that are good or that are in the 1 -3 positions, but I think next year we are strong in those positions and it's not a critical. Looks like Mason, Graham, Greene, Svi, and Selden will probably be back and it would be interesting if Ellis moved to the 3 spot.

You make a couple of decent points, but instead of bashing Layne, maybe you could just provide better question or comment for us to use?
