Thomas Robinson moving up menu nicely

Funny thing; this concept of "inexperience"...

We had one returning starter this year in TT! Now, that is inexperience! Next year we will have (at least) three returning starters... one will lead the league in blocked shots, another is one of the smoothest slashers I have seen since Kenny Gregory in his glory day and the third is this year's only returning starter's "little brother". With a bench adorned with AFH battle-hardened sophomores and a Senior in Kevin Young (that I just can't fathom not being a starter if he keeps showing what he did against OSU), the last thing I would call next year's team is inexperienced. With four scholarship seniors on next years squad I have trouble using the word "young" as well.

Experience enough will come in the 2012 non-con'. By this time next year the Jayhawks will be another national powerhouse, Bill Self and Danny Manning will, again, be receiving well-deserved praise and there will be anxiety amongst the masses, with the loss of 4 scholarship players, about the depth and experience of the 2013 Jayhawks.

The future is fun to think about, but its nice to sit back and relish what we have right now.

ROCK CHALK!

KU's Self not fretting over Missouri's decision to leave Big 12 for SEC

I only have questions: ...antlers??? Where in the world did that come from? Is there a distinct form of tigger that was bone-headed? Does (add your own derogatory name for our wash-machine-on-the-front-porch neighbors) have a secondary mascot of a reigndeer like we have Baby Jay? Are they a secret society focused on being bone-heads? Sounds like a bunch of naysayers that flunked out of the cubscouts and hold a grudge against...everything.

The whole thing about the antlers reminds me of K-State...searching for an identity like grade school softball players looking for a difinitive cheer in the dugout... "octagon of doom" (what a joke!!!)... "emaw"??? Makes me ashamed they have "Kansas" in their school monicher.

Missouri=quitters... plain and simple. Glad to see them leave. Now we can get another school in the Big XII with some class and history they can actually be proud of...

Gary Bedore's KU basketball notebook

A need arises, desires build and a rough draft is laid out. This is a fine, and for no reason unplausible, idea to have a "College Alumni League". Even during years of non-strike the CAL would be a revenue draw. What KU enthusiast would not want to watch a starting cast of KU greats that didn't quite make the NBA in a head-to-head matchup with a team fielded with MU greats (their standard, not mine). Of course schools like MU and OU would have larger pools to draw from as so few of their number actually make the league... Anyway, the revenue draw could be far greater than, say, a very good minor league baseball team. The flop called the D-League would no longer be necessary as the CAL would certainly be considered a substantial minor league. I would, without doubt, watch KU vets take on UT vets...NC vets...Duke vets...Illini vets...etc, and would probably DVR the games that I could not watch live.

These are all mere ramblings. As this is only an idea... a "stick" of an idea at that. Yet, just as the AFL had Lamar Hunt, the NFL had Papa Bear Halas, the X-Games have Ron Semiao-uy (didn't want to leave out any vowels) and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Ed Sabol spearheaded NFL Films... all that is needed now is a real sharp rock to turn the idea of the CAL into a spear of reality... someone with Lamar Hunt's gift of diplomacy, Ed Sabol's vision, Halas' resources and Ron S's dreams... of course the gift of gab, logic and literacy would be a definite plus to make this ship launch.

I nominate Jaybate! "Build it and they will come!" ...by the busload... If you have desire, is it really that far out of reach? (I am serious! From what I read of his posts I, truly, believe he would have the tools to make such a thing happen. No joke. Entertaining his fellow man with his writing may become the launch pad to his opus of the CAL. And if not, perhaps he may know someone with even bigger dreams.)

Challenging?

We can say "it all started here".

Recruit Zach Peters resumes football career

I see you are taking a hard-line on this one Jaybate. I understand your concern and often wonder how things might have turned out different for me if I wouldn't have played football. I think of myself as of somewhat average intelligence, but just imagine if I wouldn't have 'led-with-the-head' during my 12 years as a football player... I would be spitting on the works of Einstein and marveling at my Picasso-ish art without all this pesky brain trauma holding me back.

Jaybate, I enjoy your posts... I simply don't agree with you on this. Football served a purpose in my life (I would never have been driven to go to college otherwise) and my memories of my time on the field are without equal and irreplaceable.

Zach should play football and savor every moment of a season that is ultimately too short.

KU men's basketball opens with K-State in 2011-12 conference slate; Self calls sked toughest he's had at KU

Why must I torture myself with a schedule that doesn't start for another three months? Yet, I do it every year...guessing where the hard wins will come and knowing that every game is, in fact, a win. A loss, no matter who the foe, always suprises me.

What blows my mind is this mindset out there that the season is merely a precursor to the "Big Dance" (reverant pause). I just don't get it. Something fantastic happens every time the 'hawks take the floor...and that is EVERY game from November through April. Why is this debacle of the NCAA Tournament known as the measuring stick for the quality of our Jayhawks? Silly! The first answer to this is the tourney is what the recruits will see... I highly doubt a single one of our players plays for what a recruit will think of them. They play for the 16.3K fans surrounding them every home game and all the people running around town in their crimson and blue the morning before they play...Howard. Winning the Dance is a fine reason to throw a party, but, no matter what the outcome, the NCAA Tourney ALWAYS comes on the a$$ end of a great season.

Soph Conner Frankamp commits to KU hoops

I"ll remember this day!

I remember only three times within my Jayhawk (life-long) fandom when I was so enthused about signing a recruit. The first when Brandon Rush stunned us all by not following either of his brothers to some fairly unsavory programs, the second (probably not as memorable for some) when Tyrel Reed got the nod and the third...well, the third may belay my age a bit, but it was when Danny Manning first moved to Lawrence.

It makes me proud to see that a Kansas kid can set himself to the work it takes to be an elite basketball player. Getting the word from Conner has the feel of another C. Aldrich recruitment with a higher level of scoring potential. "IF" he keeps advancing at the rate he has already shown, we may not see him in the crimson and blue for four years. And "IF" he stays on his current path he will be able to afford doubles from Stone Cold Creamery rather than concretes from freddy's...

(Note: Stone Gold Creamery can kiss my.!. I would prefer freddy's any day of the week and not feel like a tool for spending hours of salary for some fool ice cream!... Just my opinion...)

Rock Chalk Conner! Go KU!

California prep Merv Lindsay chooses KU basketball

Merv, I know you are reading this...and all the comments that have come before this one. Welcome to becoming a Jayhawk! You are on the right path, but what you do from here will determine where the path takes you.

If I were in your shoes (I wear a size 9 1/2 so I would spend most of my time falling down) I would read all these comments...especially the ones that have shamed me with their assumptions of your talents and Coach Self's ability to evaluate them, print them up and hang them on your dorm room wall. Every time you walk by them in the future after busting your a$$ on the court, or in the weight room, float these comments the one finger salute then burn them when you have WORKED your way into the rotation. A few years down the road when you are walking off the hill with a college degree and a contract to play some professional basketball somewhere laugh at the memory of these shallow and hatefully motivating comments.

I'll be laughing with you.

Rock Chalk to the newest Jayhawk!

FINAL: Elijah Johnson, Travis Releford lead KU's current players to 70-58 camp win over alums

Yeah, ditto!

At first glance I was thinking the red team would have the inside all locked up and it was no wonder there was so much mention of the blue team's outside shooting------.
-----Then I saw that Brady and Tyrell were patroling the perimeter...

I would revisit all the trips to the curb with a trash bag, a $.25/week allowance and going to bed before nine for a month (well, maybe a week) just for a chance to have a seat in those stands with all the campers for these scrimmages.

Our starters are gonna be solid! Depth will be the key to the conference...

I haven't frowned upon Jayhawk depth since the days of Christian Moody, and even that was a mistake, so I am hesitant to question it now. With Bill Self at the helm there is no reason for it.
