Wright’s role clarified
Wow, actorman, you and I need to mix blood. We seem to be kindred spirits.
I used to be one of "them" until I wised up during the arrogant Bush administration. Glenn Beck has emerged as one of the most disgusting people I have ever observed. Of course, Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Rielly are right up or down there with him.
Kansasbb--it is not about enhancing central control. It all about being a humanist, something that many in health care have come to remember as being the reason they went into health care in the first place. The worst thing that has happened to physicians over the last 50 years was the initiation of the publication, "Medical Economics." It made many physicians forget why they went into medicine in the first place and put the pursuit of the almighty dollar at the top. Too bad. However, many physicians simply can't stand what has happened. Providing a means for everyone to have access to health care is simply the right thing to do. The GOP has done everything it can do to cloak this as big government getting bigger. Blah, blah, blah. I don't buy it any more. The GOP also insists they are protecting individual freedoms. Bull. They are protecting their pocket books.

Wichihawk--depends on who the new coach turns out to be. I am not a doom and gloomer. I think we will be fine, in fact, we will be better in the long run. Most recruits will wait to see who we bring in.

Former colleagues come to KU coach Mangino’s defense
Look, guys, MM has had 8 years, 8 years!!!!!.....and only has a winning percentage against two B12 teams, ISU and MU, and the latter will probably change this weekend. We have really played a cupcake non-conference schedule since he has been here. So, four of the wins each year are automatic or should be (South Florida excluded). Then we need two wins against the also rans of the B12 to become bowl eligible in an era when there are umteen thousand bowl games and much easier to become bowl eligible.
I continue to say, Rivals has ranked our recruiting classes as consistently being top 40 for the last several years. Where in the heck are the results of this superior recruiting? Are the poor results in B12 play the fault of the players? the fans? or perhaps the coaching? I say it is the latter. I am not willing to cut MM any slack. And he is not the best coach we have ever had. Look at the support he has had. No other football coach in KU history has had this much support from the administration. Look what Glen Mason did with a peanut football budget and the football offices in Allen Field house! And I was around for the TA years, in fact, I have been around for a lot of the seasons. TA's winning B12 percentage...37%....MM 37% (quoting from a former poster. I did not check this out).
I think new recruits know that our administration is taking football very, very seriously, as is evidenced by the much improved facilities, the renewed interest in FB, and the full support of KU administration. However, I think the new recruits are not blind or deaf. Unfortunately, most of our games have been on TV this year, and frankly, we have looked rag-tag and not well coached. Particularly distressing, has been the loss of control of the line of scrimmage. What I saw in the Chiefs' win last Sunday was guts, determination, toughness, and a team that was playing for their coach. Not so with KU football. If you throw out the last second win over MU last year, the 2008 campaign was not exactly thrilling either.
Finally, some of you have denigrated posters who have pointed out the obvious lack of self-dicipline from MM as evidenced by his temper tantrums and his morbid obesity. This will not do for the poster boy of KU FB. Like it or not, call everyone who points out this obvious fact as prejudicial, his physique does not go unnoticed and is a source of ridicule for the university. Fair or not fair, that is the way it is.
Agree with you, Jahawkdave.

Texas Tech's Leach calls Mangino investigation 'witch hunt'
Actorman--you are right on. MM has to go and the sooner the better. The only speed bump is the 6M. However, we may be able to negotioate this down or pay it out over time. Lew does have to move fairly quickly and decide one way or the other. I am among those of you who think that the damage is already done.
As another poster pointed out a few days ago, TA's winning percentage against the B12 over 5 years was 37%. MM over 8 years has around a 37% winning record against the B12. We have 4 wins against the B12 South...in 8 years...8 years for heavens sake. We only have a winning record against two B12 schools, ISU and MU, and the latter is only 4-3, soon to be 4-4. We were ready to tar and feather TA and yet MM has his defenders. Many of the defenders think that he is getting a "raw" deal and perhaps he is. I guess we'll soon find out. Raw deal or no raw deal, it's time to move on. Incidently, I have not heard Bill Young or Tovar utter supportive words for their former head coach. I think another former assistant coach, Beck, is at NU.
There is a fraternity among coaches. Of course, none of the HCs of other schools are going to voice their approval of MM. They all stick together.
Lew, is doing the right thing. The poster boy of KU football must go. And soon.

jhawk dan,
They don't continually come to the US but some do. But, jhawkdan, you are missing the point. Yes, we have great health care (probably the best) for those who can afford it. Thus, what we have is good chronic care for those with insurance and terrible chronic care for those who can't afford it. Therefore, as a country we rank way down in health care compared to other industrialized countries. We have excellent crisis care, but we pay for too much, especially at the end of life. Crisis care, i.e. emergency care, is very expensive and only temporizing. Whenever social needs are unmet by private industry, the social outcry is so great that the feds must step in. Our health care system is not good. We leave too many people out. Many of those living in comfort have ignored this for years.
A one payer system would allow the government to negotiate pharmaceuticals, set standards, etc. And, I am not entirely blaming big pharma and big insurance, because they are doing what their stock holders want them to do, make a profit, but in so doing they leave many wanting. That is why non-for profit insurance is attractive. However, I would much prefer a single payer system as espounded by Frisco.
I guess some people are listening....thus the debate.

Longhorns roll over embattled KU
The only hang-up here is the 6M buyout. Unless it can be proven that he really did act inappropriately in his power position as coach, 6M is a huge amount to cough up. However, if there is enough damaging evidence discovered, KU might be able to negotiate the amount down to a more reasonable amount.

Agree with you J Burtin, as usual. Also agree with 55, the team did not quit last night. Yet, the subpar performance all year points toward the coaching.

KU football kicker: ‘Stay slow, stay balanced’
