FINAL: KU has no answer for Iowa State offense in 51-23 loss

No, we were not competitive with Turner Gill BUT what you have to realize is that he was trying to completely change the way KU plays football. He wanted to change us from a shotgun, throwing team to a run based team. If you disagree with his decision to do that, then fine. But if not then you have to understand that it takes time to get the right players for the right system. If you notice now our best players are Turner Gill recruits. From Heeney to Mundine to Pierson. I'm not saying that we should have kept Turner Gill forever but I think we would be doing about this well with him as our coach now anyway. The progress we have made this year should not be COMPLETELY given to Weiss.

With that same mentality, we cannot pee our pants and get extremely excited because we have a big name coach who brought over some big name players (Crist, Heaps). There is a reason Dayne Crist is no longer at Notre Dame. There is a reason Jake Heaps is no longer at BYU. And unfortunately it is not because they really really really wanted to play at KU. It's because they aren't very good. They weren't as good as recruiters expected them to be when they came out of high school. We need to stop having extreme expectations or a feeling of entitlement just because we won the Orange Bowl five years ago. We had a wonderful year in 2007 but we were not built to last. In 2008 we won our first five (easier) games then dropped the last seven.

With all that being said we are obviously in a rebuilding stage. Do I personally like Charlie? Do I think he is the long term future for our school? No, not really. But I don't think we should even consider getting rid of him until he has had at least 4 years so that his freshman class can become seniors. I believe the same should have gone for Turner Gill or any other coach we pick up.

Right now, I think we should all agree on a few things.

(1) We are at a time as a program where we have the opportunity to decide what we want to become in the future. We don't really have an "identity". We are rebuilding.

(2) We need to get over expecting to be very good very fast. A serious, long term turnaround doesn't happen in a night. We need patience and direction.

(3) No matter who the coach is we need to support him until he has had time for his first freshman class to become seniors. At that point we can have a fair judgement on progress made as a whole team.

This is just my opinion but hopefully there is somebody out there that agrees with me or has some other ideas they would like to share.

Though KU football future uncertain, players deserve support in finale

What we all need to realize is that whether or not you like him, firing Gill after this year would be stupid for a couple of reasons.

1) We are still paying Mangino, would have to pay Gill, AND somehow find the money for this amazing new coach everyone seems to want to hire.

2) We would be telling the new coach that we are only giving him two years, regardless of what his contract Is, to turn one of the worst programs in the country into a respectable one despite having mediocre players and one of the toughest schedules in the country from this year on out.

I think we all love KU and we all love KU football. The best thing for us to do us to show support for our team, program, and even coach right now because to be quite honest if I was a recruit or potential new head coach, KU does not interest me whatsoever right now. I'm not saying settle for being bad but at least try and support this program because the fans are just as important as the coach, players, and everyone else involved and right now we all leave at halftime if we even go to the games at all. I know we aren't playing well but from the player's point of view everyone quit on them so why should they still try? Whether that's right or wrong its probably the case so please, especially for this last game, go to it and cheer us on the best you possibly can.

Yeah, KU freshman should definitely be expected to perform at the same level as Texas freshman do. That's very realistic. I totally agree with you.
