KU’s Morningstar suspended

Kid gets pulled over for DUI, he has a problem with alcohol. His judgement was definitely impaired because he got behind the wheel. He plays for the #1 basketball school in the nation and he thinks it's OK to risk getting caught. As a graduate of the school, I'm embarassed. It couldn't happen to the best of us, only those who are not grateful for the gifts they are given. Call a cab, call someone sober, take the bus, sleep it off where you are. Kid had tons of options but he chose the one that got him in trouble and could of gotten himself killed. And as for your comment that you can drive just fine while over the legal limit---that's what most people who kill others while driving drunk say. I'm not a mormon, I love me some beer, but I've seen enough of the cheesey "please drink responsibly" PSAs to know to designate a driver.
And just because he will probably get off on a technicality does not excuse the fact that he made a serious error in judgement. My guess is that he will learn a lot from this. But this isn't something we all need to learn first-hand. There's a lot of good people out there sharing their stories, all we have to do is listen. Don't drink and drive---at all.

Kleinmann headed to ‘enemy territory’
Just saw this on CNN : http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music...
I miss moose. He was a great opponent for KU. Never knew the guy but he seemed to be an upright fellow.
How did Billy Tubbs outlive Moose?

KU web extends all over
I believe that John Wooden (and all his titles he would later gain at UCLA) came to Kansas to try and get on board the Jayhawk express when he was young. From what I recall, there was no room for the Wizard, but he spent the summer working construction on Memorial Stadium. So the web spreads wide indeed.
One school to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them.
Rock chalk.

No stunts needed by ‘Dippy’
Eurekahwk,
Speak no ill of the dead. Wilt is the greatest. Wilt is a Jayhawk. These are the important things to remember. All our sins fade in the rear-view mirror of time.
Rock chalk.

Gary Bedore's KU Basketball Notebook
Foamy,
Too soon, buddy. Too soon.
Sherron is a great player who learned a team role backing up guards that he was (debatably) superior to. Now he's getting comfortable in the leadership role. If he comes back, he'll have that perfected with a support cast that has confidence enough to score when Sherron dishes the dime. His sometimes low assist total is not because he's not passing, it's because his teammates are not knocking them down.

What was that music?
Keep AFH Holy! I remember in the 80s with McCurdy as band director and Michael T blowing trumpet and Andrew Jamez on the drums, that band was almost worth the price of admission (oh, yes, there was a young lad named Manning who made the trip worth while). It's about the band. AFH doesn't need a lazer show. Crap, I live in Dallas, and fans at Mavs and Stars games can't be bothered to show up for tip or puck drop, so of course they need giant doses of "Jock Jams" to get their pulses above 30 bpm. But this is University of Kansas! If you need to boogie, listen to the band play. Students should have ample energy to stand for the entire game. Wave the wheat, chant the chant, and keep "Whoop there it is" out of my AFH. The endowment association just called me last night and I gave my funds to a University that honors tradition. I've still got a bottle of "Old Jayhawk" bourbon (not officially licensed) that I bought the night in 1988 that Danny performed the miracle. Haven't cracked the seal on that bad boy. I still have the foam Jayhawk from the KU v Kentucky game when Danny shut down Kenny "Sky" Walker. I painted my BBQ smoker crimson and blue. We care about tradition.
I mean, did Wilt say "No soup for you!" when he came back? No, he said "Rock Chalk." Good enough for the big dipper, good enough for me.

Signature touch
My kids refer to Cole as "Baby Cole," because last year, up until the UNC game, he was such a sweet, innocent looking player among men like Sasha Kaun and Darnell Jackson. We should have probably invented a new pet name for him after he humbled UNC. Now, this year, he's consistant and dominant. All hail King Cole.

KU hair better than 7-5
Shouldn't professional journalists refrain from "Ifs and buts" romanticizing about the season. Don't say it's just like we're 8-4. If we wanted to be 8-4 we should have beaten Nebraska or South Florida. We certainly got our behinds handed to us by the "powers in the South." I love my Jayhawks, but let's be realistic in our reporting of the season and let's leave the "woulda coulda shoulda" to the fans. Home town journalism can still be objective. Thanks Jayhawks for the most exciting football game I can remember. I don't think I could have handled the stress if I were in the stands, so I'm thankful I was watching it at home with the kids. They loved it, too.

Two Texas players de-commit from Kansas
I live in Texas and my son is the only 5-year-old in his kindergarten class. All the other boys are 6-7, because their folks "didn't feel as if their boy was ready to compete with the bigger kids." So it's engrained in the culture. Highland Park's football stadium is better than Washburn's, and Southlake's football culture (fans, bands, etc) put KU's to shame during our down years. Mangino needs to (and most likely will) keep recruiting Texas. Can't let the decisions of a few knuckle-heads shake your confidence. Yes, NU beat us this year, but I believe last year was a different story.

Scouting, not speech, occupies Manning
I wonder if Kenny "Sky" Walker, Derrick Chevious and Stacy King will be in the audience? Danny Manning for president! There must be some gigantic collection of jocks somewhere after all the fakes Danny threw on some of college basketball's elite. Look in the dictionary for a definition of the phrase "represents your college well" and there is a picture of Mr. Manning. He was the greatest player on the greatest stage. He gave it all for the crimson and blue, and he's still giving.
