Ostertag wants back in NBA

You gotta chase your dreams, baby!

All the best to Greg. His character as a Jayhawk is already proved with the kidney donation.

Sherron Collins: Best KU guard ever?

You're no older than a biscuit and stat pages are just a part of the story. I've been watching KU basketball for more than 40 years and nobody, I mean nobody, ever controlled a game from the point like Jo Jo. If you wrote this for job security knowing you would get interlocking fire, well done.

The master motivator

By my senior year, the senior cheer was three choruses of "Give 'em hell, Jack Mitchell" and one course of "Hell, give 'em Jack Mitchell!" If your weren't active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, you had to be Gale Sayers to get minutes. He may have been a great recruiter but after Hadl, Coan and McClinton et al departed, so did the wins. I know the LJW has a "duty" to publish puff pieces but I took this one a little too personally.

Appleton transferring to Southwest Baptist

Jeff Guiot was from Chanute (my home town). He was recruited by Ted Owens and played a year for him under the "walk it up" style before Owens was replaced. When Brown replaced Owens, the style went up-tempo and Jeff transferred. Success to both Appleton and the former Blue Comet.

Gary Bedore’s KU basketball notebook

Time, Bill Self, and that championship trophy heals all wounds. Dumping out on KU after saying he would stay (so he could coach Heinrich & Collison), then fleeing the second time and in the manner he fled is in history and can't be erased. We thought he was a class guy but it turned out otherwise. All's well that ends well.

Prep star delays decision

I have serious doubts about Mr. Stephenson's willingness to play KU ball. It reads like he needs to be the "show" (and only for one season) wherever he goes. It's still a team game and it still says "Kansas" on the jerseys. If the Henry boys play anything like their dad did, c'mon down.

Darrell Arthur quietly having a solid season for Memphis

Paul Pierce was the first not to play out his eligibility and KU was one of the last schools to have players jumping "early." It is a fact of life. Personally, I like the players who remain Jayhawks, like Darnell Jackson showing up at the CU game (I happened to attend). The money is big and careers can be cut short by injury. Cut these guys some slack unless they publicly slam KU.

Fans, at least, kind to Turgeon

Someone kick Holly Rowe in the nether parts for the half-time questions she asked Mark. It was disrespectful to any coach but especially to a coach who is "one of us." I was disgusted with her and the yellow journalism. She's not the show and that's not how we treat visiting coaches (unless you're Billy Tubbs).

Party in Tempe: What to do if you go to the Insight Bowl

As another local, for cheap, different, and flavorful Mexican food, Restaurant Mexico on Mill Avenue is a must. If you have a sweet tooth, it has the best flan in the Valley. It is a cooking style from central Mexico instead of the Sonoran style that prevails here. For fine dining, the House of Tricks just north of Mill on 7th Street (towards the stadium) serves eclectic American dishes. I've never had a bad dish, let alone meal there. It is a little pricey but not in the range of Lon's, which I love, but I don't have to take out a second mortgage to eat there and it's right in the middle of the Insight Bowl action. On the campus, the Grady Gammage Auditorium is a site to see, especially if you can get inside. It is a Frank Lloyd Wright design and Wright's western campus in North Scottsdale. We'll see you at the tailgate party and the game. Rock Chalk Jayhawk
