Not-so-gentle reign

My vote is for Mike Ditka!

The choice is obvious. He has ties to KU (Gale Sayers was a bear. At a later time, Ditka coached for the Bears. So obviously, those two are tight). He has ties with Lew Perkins (they both have lots of money. therefore, ties.) And a history of winning championships.

Not-so-gentle reign

I'm really curious why half of this board is convinced that this is a giant Lew Perkins conspiracy and that he is the one releasing everything.

From what I've read, Lew initiated the investigation -- which is his JOB. If a player brings a complaint of abuse from coaches, I'd bet the AD is legally liable if he doesn't show diligence in at least checking it out.

And all the negative things are from former players who thought Mangino crossed the line. Somehow Lew Perkins is responsible for these players being disgruntled enough to talk to the media? Please. Be realistic.

If he's publicly humiliating players, verbally abusing them, etc., especially if this is more than has already mentioned, he's probably crossing the line. There is a difference between being hard-nosed and being abusive.

One question: I keep seeing Rivera mentioned, but I can't seem to see what exactly it is that Mangino did to Rivera that's being alluded to. Rivera said he won't talk about it publicly, Crawford mentioned he felt Mangino went to far -- anyone with details?

KU AD Perkins meets with football players over concerns about coach Mark Mangino

To paraphrase something a player I know said last year, if you are one of the stars, you can do no wrong, but if you aren't you'll be treated like dirt. Obviously, I have no personal experience, and I'd like to think that MM can continue to be the miracle worker we thought he was, but we'll have to see how things pan out.

Mutt, I think I would rather end my own life than see Charlie Weis even considered to be the coach of KU. The hiring of Charlie Weis would be undeniable proof that God does not love kansans.

I think I would have to wrap myself in gasoline soaked football jerseys and light myself on fire in the lawn in front of Allen Fieldhouse to accurately depict the level of disapproval / the future of KU football were Weis to be named coach.

I'd rather not do that. It would be a rather painful way to go. Possibly not as painful as watching Weis ruin another football team.

Gary Bedore’s KU basketball notebook

The KJHK sports guys are pretty good from the bit I've heard of them this year (I may be biased...). They're also covering womens' games this year, from what I heard at the staff meeting. 90.7FM if you're in the area, kjhk.org anywhere.

You know, while I'm plugging kjhk, I might as well say to check out their other shows as well.

Jayhawks tapped No. 1

Man, I guess Cats forgets that John Wall still has to, you know, actually become eligible. Wham bam thank you ma'am.

Maybe if they're lucky, KY will get a record win season, just like Cal brought to Memphis -- only to have the entire season forfeited, just like at Memphis.

Nebraska or Missouri? Plus, Big 12 WR team rankings

Impressive fourth quarter for Nebraska for sure, but I have to like our chances after watching that game. Nebraska's offense looked absolutely awful for three quarters, and they made mistake after mistake on both sides of the ball.

That was the sort of game where you really had to wonder how both teams didn't manage to lose. Seriously, like five dropped interceptions for Nebraska.

Aldrich, Collins honored together

I think Withey playing some good time at the 4 is definitely a possibility.

Two seven footers worked pretty well for stanford a few years ago. And the Lopez twins were overrated. Plus their guard play wasn't anywhere neaaaaar what KU will have this year.

Two seven footers also worked pretty well for the Lakers last year. Of course, that's NBA, but still.

Whether or not Withey will start is another thing completely. But if he has progressed well, I could see us playing some good minutes with a tall lineup.

Yankees choose Budig

I think what 100 means is some parity... the MLB is already a parody, unfortunately. Always a plus when your typos can happen to be accidentally witty.

Joe-College.com ordered to pay Kansas Athletics more than $660,000

I certainly won't complain about no more Joe College. The fratboys will have to invest in more pink polos since they won't be able to get anymore "Win Or Lose, We Still Booze" shirts. Seriously, I'm a college student, I drink, but I also have the self respect to not wear a shirt that makes me look like a tool. I'd be okay with there being less idiotic joe college shirts.

Shades of Orange? KU could start 4-0 again

RCCH - Briscoe actually did score against the Colts. They photoshopped the Duke logos onto the helmets in an attempt to dupe the public into thinking that Duke can actually play football (albeit badly).

UTEP and S. Miss are decent teams, and hopefully the scheduling will be more aggressive in the next ten years. I'm okay with a relatively soft non-con when we've only really been a successful BCS era program for the last two years. I mean, when we just went bowling for consecutive years for the first time ever, I can't blame them for not scheduling USC and OSU. Or even FSU, BYU, Utah, or some relatively successful but non-powerhouse.

Besides, we get to play Texas and Oklahoma... they'll get more than enough challenge with those games.
