Obviously, the prevalence and exposure (and use) in a large enough sample of college age kids will result in the maelstrom of comments as above and recently about marijuana...Thinking about it all from my own perspective when I was 20 yrs old (and LESS decided about the issue), I remember people talking about it, doing it, seeing it. Yeah I tried it once, and it did nothing for me. I also recall thinking in high school and college that I didnt want to be "offline" as I always thought I had a lot of other interests, that I just never had the time to sit around or be part of that scene or clique...and this from someone who grew up in the 80s (i luv the 80s) and was (and is) ALL about guitar rock. So Ive seen and known alot of people that used it, but I was too busy working on guitar riffs and solos to try to "live the life". No, I never had the big rocker-dude hair, or a mullet. Any of you recall the concerts at the KS Coliseum when here would come a 'communal' joint being passed down the line?...anyway, that scene was all about the music for me...Yeah, I would have a beer with anybody, but just never really worried about the drugs. And when it did make the news, it was about some famous person getting caught, or sufferring some pitfall of their drug use. Just figured at the time I didnt need anymore headaches. Other people's business is how I looked at it when I was in college...

A versatile, tough player to join LeBron in Cleveland. And he's been playing basketball only 8yrs! Kind of like Sasha's story--also a clue that Cleveland sees a big "upside" to DJack. He certainly has not plateaued by any means. You go, Darnell! You deserve all the goodness!

Darnell,
Thanks for the SOLID person you are, both on and off the court. One of your bball highlights that is a KU classic is your junior year putback dunk vs. OklahomaSt (with the gorilla chest thumps afterwards)--so strong and so much of you in that piece of film--we all could tell. A strong person can sometimes create their own destiny and opportunities, and you, sir, have done exactly that. You did this all with your head held high, an example for us all. I, of course, love basketball and have a 9yr old son named Jordan (named after a famous Bulls player...) who is also well aware of the work-ethic and excellence of his namesake. But during the last 2 KU seasons, and also in the future, I have and will continue to teach and show him the worthy example of Mr. Darnell Jackson. I look forward to meeting you one day. Good luck with it all!

Interesting comment by Shady: "If I hadnt opened the door, everything wouldve been fine..." (paraphrase). It could be that the groupies picked their room, and the 2 youngsters (read: immature/starstruck/naive-to-NBA) unwittingly opened their door, and in walks the wrong kind of party. Obviously this is fairly commonplace, I deduce, as the NBA has put together a 4 day presentation called 'Rookie Camp' to cover pitfalls just such as this. Cmon guys, you both made us SO proud for us to give up on you or write you off. Mistake made. Lesson learned. We all move on. Still rootin' for you both to win (in everything...). And you will. Its what champs do.

Good news. Nicely stocked team at all positions, although the experience level can, uh, only get better...
Fun to anticipate! Regarding Chalmers and Arthur--Im hopeful (purely for their sake) that they learn from their mistake and move on to successful careers.

Was at the game. Awesome. Im proud of the fans for hanging in there with the weather. I like the stiffened defense the 2nd half. The goal line stand was incredible.
Nice start to the season. Some team will not put 8-men in the box like the first 2 opponents, and the ground game will take off also. I noticed we have an NFL-sized offensive line during the player introductions...wow! Ask any Chiefs fan: O-line is about 80% of the game (and you gotta have some defense), as proven year after year in the Trent Green era...

Its up to Mario and Darrell to learn about whats truly at stake and hopefully come out wiser. Same applies to alot of the reefer-lovers above(you know who you are).
Approx above in his/her post quoted 4 famous people, but forgot that soundbites are dangerous because they can be taken out-of-context, as approx just did. Without saying it explicitly, approx is obviously trying to craft a conscientious objection to a particular law (marijuana is illegal), insinuating we are morally obligated to disobey. The flaw is that this would bring his desired action (go ahead and smoke weed) in direct opposition to the intent of the law--protect the public. Come on, people, for example: DUI does NOT JUST MEAN alcohol! Marijuana has been studied--abundantly clear that it slows reflexes which would make it dangerous, thus the illegality. Another danger to the reefin' population is that impurities laced within the product could have serious health risks, leading to hospitalization, death, costs, wrecks, etc... You want to talk about addiction potential and low sperm counts related to that drug? Someone else posted a good legality-analogy: Ok, so if you dont like a traffic law--go break it. Repeatedly. See what happens. Test that hypothesis! I hope you can live through the adverse risks to learn from it, or you dont plow over some 4yr old in a parking lot you were too slow to react to- in the process of that "learning". How many years (9...) do I have to try to help someone's sufferring (driver and/or innocent bystander) in the ER from intoxicated driving to have taken my obvious position? Or see people in the clutches of desparate addiction, who have lost it all. But that will never happen to you--you can control it... I say all this, because it is obvious some of you (reeferheads) have not figured this out yet. Get busy and graduate. I have confidence your immature mind will evolve. OR, you can waste your own precious time and money, even if you counter that you do not drive under the influence. Its your life and potential to waste, not mine! Its a free country, isnt it? Choices, choices! Yeah, we've all done stupid stuff, but learn and move on. And yes, college often is about "questioning the status quo/establishment", but try not to make yourself look pathetically silly/uninformed/irresponsible/immature on a comment board(!) defending something illegal! How is THAT part of the Jayhawk "tradition of excellence"? What exactly are you in school for? Whatever Mario and Darrell did or didnt do just embarassed alot of us in the KU nation. Like Self, I will certainly support those two as long as I think that I can. I am just embarrased some of you are trying to defend illegality--what if some non-KU person read your comments? We expect better. Defend something worth defending and that is not illegal (hint). I want all 'Hawks to feel proud of themselves one day--those in the limelight and all the rest of us too. Be a winner.
On Report: Chalmers, Arthur caught with marijuana at NBA camp

I just have a feeling this Mario Little is one tough baller. Hope his leg heals up. This clearinghouse nonsense with the Twins is just flat stupid--yes, this happenned to B.Rush, but that was 3 yrs ago--NOTHING apparently has improved in their procedures to clear a player...!

Pure bull-butter that we cannot watch these games on even some local j-tv or comparable type of network. There is no supportable rationale. Im sure some area business would pay the cheap ad time after 10:30pm even--whatever it takes!? Total hooey.

...but everyone knows us kansans can be downright opinionated...None of the threads above about pot should surprise anyone. Its been a polarizing issue for 30+ yrs... To me, on a basketball blog, it is less about pot, than it is about the future careers about 2 young Jayhawks from a champion team that I care alot about. That level of passion will invite commentary from many...and I for one, really, really do not want to see any of their careers go down in flames because of naivete or making unwise choices. So of course Im still rooting for Mario and Darrell.
