KU AD Perkins meets with football players over concerns about coach Mark Mangino
For all of you who think Patterson would be an option, get real. I'm convinced that the Patterson to K-State rumor was true, but somebody at the Ag school blew it and he walked. Snyder's return is a short-term patch that enables Patterson to save face and then will take the K-State job in 2-3 years when Snyder steps aside saying he is too "tired" to continue the pace of being a head coach.
Mutt627, just fyi, Paul Johnson is in his second year at Ga Tech.
Cromwell might be okay and I like the Norm Chow suggestion. Maybe Rich Rodriguez will give us a look when he's shown the door at Michigan?

Standards have been lowered
The words I always remember when the use of that ugly word comes up is Richard Pryor during a more solemn moment during one of his stand-up routines (it might have been his "Sunset Strip" routine). But he mentioned taking a trip to Africa and seeing where his ancestors came from and whoever he was with asked him if he had even thought of the "n" word while there. Pryor realized that he hadn't even thought of the word even though it was rather prevalent in his everyday life back here in the US. Sure wish other, younger individuals could enjoy an epiphany like this.

Gary Bedore’s KU basketball notebook
dmoney- The word "preseason tournament" in the post should have been a clue. No worries though.
Every team Coach Williams took to the PRESEASON NIT won it except his last team when we got spanked by Coach Doherty's UNC squad and then lost to Florida in the Consolation game. Don't know what was up with that '02-'03 team as they came out of the gate 3-3, but finished fairly strong.

We haven't been to the NIT in a while. Why aren't we working to get back into that highly visible preseason tournament? I don't think we've gone there since Coach Self took over. Maybe he's not a fan.
But after Maui, I believe the NIT is the next best tournament for recruiting efforts. Not to mention the fact that we are pulling quite a few guys from the northeast now. It seems to make sense that you would want to get in some tournament up there. At least the Coaches vs. Cancer thing if not the NIT. Maybe that is a better fit since it is an NABC event and Coach Self is one of the Directors.
Coach Williams wouldn't even look at a gym in that area but he made sure we were in the NIT every four years or so. Seems odd.

KU lends 2008 basketball championship trophy to speaker of Kansas House
sevenyearhawk noted it correctly. The Fieldhouse and Booth Hall are closed down for the near future. It would just collect dust during the next few months with no one getting to see it, so sending it down the road for a month isn't a big deal. If it isn't secure in the House Speaker's office, I don't know where it would be safe.
I'm really surprised the money gatherers in the athletic department haven't run with this idea while the hall is closed. They could be bringing in some nice extra cash having people bid to host the trophy for a day (with a lower level athletic rep accompanying it to keep an eye on it and a hefty penalty if someone did damage it while it was out) since it isn't on public display right now. Almost like the Stanley Cup getting to go with each member of the winning organization for a day.

Robinson using McDonalds snub as motivation
I do believe Ben Miller had left the position as Dir. of Operations. He was retained by Coach Self from Coach Williams staff. After the one year on Coach Self's staff, Coach Miller was hired by Coach Hinson down at SMS. That created the opening for Chalmers, which did occur after Mario had signed with KU.

Prep star delays decision
As far as Kentucky's scholarship situation, here is what Andy Katz wrote on his blog on ESPN.com: "Kentucky had some funny math even before the flirtation with John Calipari. The Wildcats had one scholarship open but signed three players under Billy Gillispie, meaning there had to be attrition either through the NBA draft, transfers or scholarships not being renewed. Whoever is the new coach is likely going to have roster-upheaval privileges. Remember, scholarships are technically renewable every season."
As far as the Henry brothers, I believe CJ would still have to sit out a year even though he didn't play this year for Memphis. He was still enrolled and part of the basketball program there. It would be interesting to see if CJ would want to come if he had to sit out a year because he'd be a 24 year old sophomore and not start playing until November of 2010 which would make it three years since he decided to go to school to play basketball. As many people have mentioned, the scholarship wouldn't be a problem which is a nice bonus.

Collins a third team All-America selection
Nice picture to go with this story. A nice honor for Sherron as a result of his play throughout the season, and instead of using one of the dozens of action shots the LJW has of him throughout the season, they use a shot of him looking at a stat sheet in a losing, depressed locker room. It probably was the last picture on their camera from this last weekend and the first one they got to when sorting by date saved/modified. Don't work too hard there guys.

Jayhawks soak up Sweet 16 in Indy
Schools are allowed to take the team to a game, movie, amusement park, etc. as entertainment when a team is on the road. I believe the restriction is how far you can travel to get to the entertainment, i.e. it must be close by to be considered okay.
The hotels for the teams are public information. Anyone in Indy would know what the team hotels are, so noting this information is really not a big deal. If you are selected as a team hotel, the amount of security required should deter any possible problems anyway. In San Antonio, you could not even get into the team hotel without having a hotel key or knowing someone staying inside and having them come down and get you. It isn't like walking into a Super 8 or Best Western where the only person on site is at the desk.

KU will play North Dakota State at 11:30 a.m. Friday
kujayhawker said it nicely. KU's rebuilding year against MU's championship run still puts KU as the higher seed and closer to home. MU just loves Boise too. Nothing bad has ever happened to them there.
I mentioned this on the full KU article, but the potential matchup with Memphis in the Sweet 16 is about the worst case scenario for MU. Mike Anderson teams do really well in games where teams don't have much time to prepare for their system. See UAB beating Kentucky in the second round in 2004 and KU during Big Monday this year. But teams with equal or superior athletes, when given time to prepare for them, can usually put a good sized hurting on them. See KU in Sweet 16 2004 and on March 1 this year. John Calipari is very familiar with Anderson from their days in C-USA together while Anderson was at UAB. Give Calipari a week with the types of athletes we all know he has, it is about the worst team MU could draw.
The thing is, we don't have time to worry about MU as we have a team playing just 7 hours from home ready to tip off in 107 hours and 30 minutes. Bloody Mary's and Screwdrivers to start the day. Let's just hope our guys are a little more alert than from our last early start time just 84 hours and 30 minutes ago.
