Not-so-gentle reign

ginger2015,
do you realize how many former players MM has. These few players we are hearing about doesn't mean "not many former players respect him." He has plenty of players, like Anderson and McAnderson in the story above, that do support him. It's just not new to put in all the the former players contacted that do support him. Put it this way, if there isn't a quote from a former player about MM in this article, then all those former players who are able to be contacted (because you can believe many more than are listed in this article were contacted) had good things to say about MM.

even if MM is gone, he isn't done in d1 football. He'll be coaching next season even. While personal attacks may be over the line, they aren't enough to fire a head coach 2 years removed of being national coach of the year. It sounds like most of these instances aren't personal attacks on their families anyway. I have no problem with MM telling Mortensen he'll be drinking out of a brown paper bag back in Oakland when he gets a possesion charge during football season. As we see, these things have been happening in years prior, and it didn't seem to affect the prior teams play. This is just news because we are in the midst of a losing streak and is not the reason why this team is losing. If MM is gone, I think it is because Lew just wants a new big name to come in and bring some more attention to KU football and is just using the only thing he has as an excuse to get rid of him.

Pick will be the starter next year. That is why Mangino is working him in so much this year. He knows this year is down and is getting Pick some snaps now so he has some experience for next year. I believe Pick has already been redshirted and had huge stats in hs as well.

hdhntr,
While Mizzou did deserve a bcs bowl in 07, so did KU. It was Illinois that didn't and only got chosen by the Rose to keep a big 10/pac 10 matchup. The 3 teams from a conference rule is ridiculous. KU did beat the then #3 in the BCS VT that year, so didn't lose to every top team they played. And winning on the road at OSU that year on national prime time was also a good win. That OSU team had the same talent they have had the past couple of years. We finished that year with a 1st place vote in the AP and were the only 1-loss bcs team, and beating VT proved we deserved to be there, and it wasn't all smoke and mirrors of a year. Obviously we could play with Mizzou when we beat essentially that same team from 07 last year in 08.

This sounds like some more baby players and their parents who need to hear Hawkins speech at Colorado. "This is the Big 12" Go play intramurals if you can't be thick skinned and take some verbal abuse so that next time you don't make the same mistake and become a better player. "He poked me in the chest." That doesn't sound like a football player playing in one of the best conferences in the country.

KU AD Perkins meets with football players over concerns about coach Mark Mangino

kstrebor,
Wow, I also hope you are kidding? Even at 3rd and 10, I feel like our opponents will get a first down. They probably do at least half the time. When our defense can't stop a Nebraska offense (who went 7 quarters with like 7 first downs recently) at the end of the game when you know a run is coming, then our defense has issues.

Will the KU football team make a bowl game this season?

criderak7, KSU isn't bowl eligible with 6 wins. They played 2 I-AA teams and have to win 7 to be bowl eligible

Will the KU football team make a bowl game this season?

It's surprising to see that 77% of people say no. I know that the last month has been frustrating, but do that many people think we can't be Mizzou. Regardless of our record, that is still an important game, and since we beat em last year with Coffman, Maclin, and Daniel, I feel pretty confident we will beat them again. I like our chances to rebound tomorrow also. Nebraska's offense isn't moving the ball too well either, and we can come out of our funk and beat them as well. Go hawks.

Gary Bedore’s KU basketball notebook

Anybody heard the latest on Sherron and Cole's decisions. Or what hoops does Henry and his brother have to jump through before they can come here? Will Lance Stephenson still come here (as was predicted) if Henry comes here? Anybody with some inside info please? Thanks.

Heisman Trophy and BCS title talk

What will be interesting is if OU wins its last 2 (which they will be favored to win with Tech game in Norman) and if Florida beats Bama in SEC title game, will OU catch Florida? Texas will probably be #1 in all computer polls, and may be as low as #3 in human polls. It will be such a close battle in terms of the points in the human polls between Florida, OU, and Texas, that the computer polls will weigh heavily on BCS ranking which will probably put Texas #1. Right now OU is close to Florida in the BCS ranking with their computer averages being tied. OU is behind Florida in both human polls right now, so they have room to gain on Florida in the BCS average with 2 top 13 wins both in the human polls and could overtake the tie in the computer polls. It would be another BCS mess if OU is behind Texas in the BCS and doesn't get to play in the Big 12 championship, but jumps in front of Florida on their two big wins. Then the entire week before the Big 12 and SEC championships we would be talking if Florida's win over Bama in the SEC will be enough to get in front of OU in the BCS even though OU wouldn't have played in their conference championship. My guess is that OU would stay in front of Florida in the computer polls (even after a win over Bama because of a home loss to an unranked team), but that the human voters, knowing the scenario, would make sure to put Florida #1, Texas #2, and OU #3, so that we wouldn't have a Texas - OU championship game.I'm sure this is entirely confusing, but if the favorites win their games (OU will be favored in both, Texas will be favored in all 3, and Florida will be favored in all 3 including against Bama), then I see this scenario playing out. When the regular season ends I see 1. Bama, 2. Texas, 3. OU, and 4. Florida (even though Texas might be 4th in human polls behind Florida and OU it will be such a close 4th that #2 in computers will put them ahead) After conference championships it will be 1. Texas, 2. Florida, 3. OU, 4. Bama (but OU will be ahead of Florida in computer polls and it will take voters putting Florida #1 and maybe even dropping OU behind Texas to ensure OU doesn't get in without playing in Big 12 title game).
