Kansas football (gasp!) hits road

Hopefully, the Jayhawks won't show up, start turning the ball over, and choke the game away late. That's Kansas tradition.

What others are saying

I think the fact Julian Wright is gay and that John Amaechi came out... has allowed Julian to come out... both figuratively and literally.

Unbearable

There is an awful lot of Mangino bashing going on here. Many are saying he can recruit but that the program and wins/losses are not following. However, when was the last time we beat Nebraska or were competitive with teams like Texas A&M, Nebraska, Texas, etc? We are complaining about choking away games that we were actually LEADING in the first place. We are clearly capable of competing with most teams in the conference week in and week out. I agree that the playcalling has been conservative once we have a lead and that we seem to play "not to lose" instead of to win, but it isn't Mangino who controls the defense, allowing Oklahoma State to set their school record for passing against us. It isn't Mangino who allowed Baylor to set their school record for the biggest comeback. We lost a stud corp of linebackers and several d-line starters from last year. We obviously haven't recovered from that, evidenced by the inability to stop people from passing on us (can't pressure QB, DB's not keeping up with WR). I promise you no one is more frustrated with Kansas football than me this season. I was a student at KU in the worst of years (late 80's with Bob Valesente as coach). The psychology of the 4th quarter is definitely a factor now as players are going to be waiting for the other shoe to drop... almost anticipating something to go wrong. No bowls this year. Hopefully, we get some LB and DB help in recruiting (even if juco transfers) for next season. For those of you calling for Mangino's head, fear not... he probably wont' be around much longer. He's a heart attack just waiting to happen.

KU discovers 'sense of urgency'

Myt apologies. Toledo didn't pass all over us. They scored 37 points on just 237 yards of offense. Hence, the "big play" defense that we had in that game, amassing ZERO forced turnovers. Apparently, we've been stellar against the pass up until this past weekend against Oklahoma State. I mean, NW State only threw for 217 in Week 1, Lousiana Monroe threw for 377 in Week 2, South Florida for 196 in Week 4, Nebraska for 395 in Week 5, Texas A&M for 240 in Week 6 and Oklahoma State for 411 in Week 7. It therefore took Week 7 before Mangino made the comment that the loss to Oklahoma State "might have woken this team up to its deficiencies". That's shrewd, insightful analysis.

KU discovers 'sense of urgency'

It took 42 points in 1.5 quarter to wake up the Jayhawks to their deficiencies in pass defense? Would have thought Toledo did that. Would have thought their 102nd ranking against the pass out of 119 teams in NCAA Division I football might have already done that. Of course, after last week, we are now 117th out of 119 teams. One thing IS certain, we're a "Big Play" defense... but unfortunately, those big plays are for the benefit of opposing offenses.

Cowpunched!

Have faith, KU faithful. We are in fact making our mark in the conference this year. Just this Saturday, we enabled OSU to set a school record for yards from scrimmage by their QB, breaking a 17 year school record which was also previously set against KU in 1989. Bowman would like to give KU props for making his name known nationally. So we are serving a role in the Big 12 conference. We are demonstrating the art of losing, and losing in the most painful of fashions. You'd think it was KU Basketball in the NCAA tournament the way we're choking down the stretch. 42 points in 1.5 quarters... at home... wow... PATHETIC.

Ryan Wood's KU football notebook

Nice to see Coach come out and state clearly whom he has faith in at QB. Let's keep going week-to-week with a QB controversy. Mangino... make a decision... and don't be afraid to tell the press. Back your QB publicly. Come on... take 5 mins away from the buffet table and make a decision. I'll await your decision as you are probably jogging a 5-K on a treadmill at Robinson.

Final: Kansas falls, 37-31, in double OT

What does homophobia have to do with anything I said? Meier threw the game in 2-OT. That was PATHETIC.... period. He has long hair... he threw a pass with no mustard behind it. You do the math. Perhaps if he focused on hitting the receivers in the hands instead of zeroing on their crotch... he might have a better completion percentage... well... at least in passes to OUR team.

Final: Kansas falls, 37-31, in double OT

Nothing new. We played like true faggots when the pressure was on. This was 80's KU tradition in football from a KU grad who has seen it all since the worst of times... KU teams of '86, '87, 88, '89. 5 turnovers to ZERO. You deserve to lose EVERY TIME you do that. I know... it brings back too many memories from QBs that made you want to pull your hair out- Mike Orth, Kelly Holcomb, the horrors. Really frustrating to endure growing pains from a pretty talented team with a freshman QB. That last interception in 2-OT... not even close. Feel sorry for the kid, Meier, faggot and all.
