Taylor welcomes family’s support

Get job, Jaybate. Or else write a book so that your semi-intellectual waxings will be viewed by people that actually care (if they exist), rather than polluting a website that is supposed to serve as a forum for discussions about KU sports.

Taylor welcomes family’s support

Nice insight soobawls, you're clearly very in touch with Lawrence these days.

There is a big difference between growing up in Lawrence and going to KU than having your parents move specifically to be near you. That's a lot of pressure on Tyshawn.

That said, its a personal family decision and I think his family will be very happy here. I'm sure Lawrence is a better place than Jersey City for his sisters to grow up. I read "Miracle at Saint Anthoney's" about Tyshawn's high school .. its a rough area (and a great book for basketball junkies).

KU hair better than 7-5

Big XII scheduling is a mess in football AND basketball. Take the ACC for example: in football they have two divisions and annual "rivalry" inter-divisional games, so that each team plays the same 6 teams every year with the remaining five rotating so you play each three times every five years. That way, the schedule constantly fluxuates, so you don't get in these feast or famine ruts.In basketball, there are no divisions, just "rivals" that each team is assured to play twice a year (UNC v. Duke, for example). This would be excellent for KU and the Big XII - imagine getting to play Texas twice a year every other season! I hate playing Iowa St. and Nebraska twice a year when our best basketball rival for the last decade has been Texas. The conference and the schools are getting screwed out of a budding rivalry and marquee matchup. Most importantly, a revised schedule would help balance out the north/south inequities which threaten to rip the conference apart.

Mayer: Injury will cost Kansas

This was a horribly senile article before the last three paragraphs when Mayer completely jumped the shark by comparing Brandon's surgery to the troops in Iraq. Mayer, I think we all know that lives lost in Iraq is more important than BR's surgery. I also know that feeding the sarving children in Darfur is more important than giving my dog a milkbone, but I'm still giving her that milkbone because the two are COMPLETELY UNRELATED. I read the front page to expand my wordly knowledge, I read the sports page for an entertaining distraction so I don't go completely mad. But I guess you've gone completely mad...

KU notebook: Charities worrisome

Being honest about the possibility of his players going pro does nothing to detract from the team because people are going to talk about it anyway. Dancing around the issue would just fuel the rumors. PLUS - and this is big - it helps recruiting. Kids want to play for a coach who is going to help them get to the next level, not a coach who is going to shield them from the next level.

Gary Bedore's KU basketball notebook

Dear Steven Sipple of the Lincoln Journal-Star:

Can we please stop the McDonald's All-Americans vs. Kids that eat at McDonald's jokes? This is the most unoriginal joke in college basketball journalism and anyone that uses it is a hack.

Big 12, Pac-10 ready to do battle

I just want to warn everyone about BC - they looked damn good in wins over Michigan St. and Maryland. Those two early season loses are weighing too much on the top 25 votes. The two loses came without Sean Williams, who is going to have a heyday against KU's weak interior. BC is a top 25 team and they play inspired (unlike, ehem, some teams I can think of). They are going to give KU a test.

Five more years

ROY WILLIAMS and AL BOHL got KU on probation. Not Self or Perkins. Self and Perkins actually prevented it from being any worse than it is. If Self gets the 16 years Roy got, he will have a championship.
