Game balls and Gassers

Ok, well, that's a bit far I think jwliddell. I mean, I give my friends a hard time for sitting down during the quarter breaks, but that doesn't mean I value them any less as a person or anything.

That said, we do need to keep more of the student section there, and I think that will improve as we go forward. I think a lot of students can be rather prone to forgetting to check the weather and such things, especially with as early as some of these games are and trying to make it down there early enough to get a decent seat. I'm not trying to make excuses for them, I'm still frustrated that so many left, but I'm just saying that I do think it will be better.

The other thing though that I think we need to improve on is the intensity of some of the people that ARE there. People simply being there isn't really helping out any more if they aren't making noise. Unfortunately, I think most of the people that read these boards aren't the ones that need this critique, so it's kind of a waste of time to even mention it here. Oh, but I will say this, giving up half the students seats would be a terrible idea--our peak loudness would drop off tremendously.

Joe-College.com argues judge's ruling would mean end to T-shirt company

woodhawk is right here guys. I would be supportive of the AD if there was a lot more infringement or that was even the actual reason they were going after him. The truth though is that they didn't like some of his shirts that were actually legal (namely of the Muck Fizzou variety), so they brought this suit to try to get rid of him. It had nothing to do with the slight amount of money they might be losing. Most of his shirts wouldn't be sold by KU anyway. The AD isn't exactly losing any money on Muck Fizzou sales or any of those type of shirts.

Whether you like the shirts or not, whether you choose to wear the shirts or not (I don't), you can't say he's a bad person just for wanting to fill the Missouri/KSU bashing niche. And if we're going to be honest with ourselves, that's really why he got targeted. He was stupid to have infringing shirts, yeah, and he should get rid of those, but can we please stop pretending like that's really what this is about? That's naive at best given that this suit was brought forth shortly after the KUAD tried to get students to stop wearing the Muck Fizzou shirts to games. And sorry, but saying he was warned multiple times... please recognize that he would have had to stop selling almost all of his shirts to make KU happy, including the legal ones. Even if he had gotten rid of every single one of the shirts the jury said infringed, KU would still have come after him because that's not what they really wanted.

I support KU upholding its trademarks. If that was all this was about or most of the shirts were infringing, then I would be all for it. As it is, I don't support them using it as a front to put a man out of business simply because they don't like what he does. That should be up to the demand of the consumers, not KU.

KU fans abuzz over seats

Satchmo: Yeah, like the A&M gameday game a few years back. They flat-out denied over-selling seats even though there were a ton of students held outside and not allowed in. They finally got most of the ones that stuck around till halftime inside, but a lot had already taken their $10 bs refund and left. Then a few months later they were quoted in an article as saying they do sell more GA tickets to games depending on how many students they think will show up, but have still always blamed the camping groups for the problems that game...

It was really stupid actually. They said they couldn't let more people in because there were too many inside that were saving seats, but they weren't actually allowing us to save seats (even though that's how the camping system works...) and any seats we did manage to save were FOR those people they were keeping outside... That said, you could tell that there were still way too many people there, not to mention all the people with tickets that had just taken their $10 refund and left. Anyway, even though they never stepped up and took the blame for it, they have been smarter about it since then.

"Just think how much more revenue KAI could generate if the nearly 7,000 students were moved into the upper rows and their current seats tossed into the priority-points mix."

I'm sorry to nitpick, but there aren't nearly 7k students. The student section is between 3k and 4k these days. The rest of those seats are GA.

Case joins Self's KU basketball staff

I find no reason to chastise jaybate for his comments. It was actually rather insightful, in a couple ways, though I must respectfully disagree with a couple points.I don't believe Coach Self places any extra blame on the players than they deserve. I think he makes a point to do so, however, more for the sake of motivating and getting his players to work harder than for his own image. Respectfully pointing out players that seemed to lack aggression or play a little soft is one of the best ways to get them to fix that in the future. Don't get me wrong, I don't deny that there is a lot of image management required in this type of business, but I feel that most of the time, Coach Self is simply trying to get his players to work harder at certain things, so that they will win more games. Winning more games, then, is what will help his image the most. Blaming others for loses won't get you nearly as far as simply not losing.

YouTube hasn't changed Mangino

Rivethead:Yeah, but Mangino was implying that whoever posted the video was trying to make a buck, which is probably untrue because the people posting don't get paid anything, obviously (though he may not know this, I doubt he spends a lot of his free time on youtube). That said, I think it was definitely youtube worthy and didn't really hurt anyone. Not sure why it really even needed to be brought up at media days. So many other things I would rather hear him talk about.

Kansas football coach Mark Mangino signs contract extension

Missouri hangs NCAA tournament APPEARANCE banners. Nuff said for basketball. As for football, they're pretty good, but the Orange Bowl Committee picked us because when we were down to Missouri, we fought back and possibly could have won given another couple minutes. Missouri, on the other hand, just got all pissy and gave up when they were down to OU. More than anything, that's probably why we were picked. They wanted a good game, so they didn't want the team they brought in to give up if they got down. Plain and simple. There were other reasons, but I think that might have been an important one.As for Florida, they have better football tradition and we have better basketball tradition. There's really no denying either of those.

Red River tossup: Oklahoma, Texas favorites in early preseason poll

Definitely a down year. Only about 4 teams that can really be considered "decent" or better. Might help us ease through this reloading period though. Our bench next year could probably outplay half of these teams even...

Mayer: Gold may bless U.S. again

"How does "standing around in front of the basket not guarding anybody" equate to playing defense?"Zone?Anyway, anyone that says those rules are to "protect the players" or "open up the game" are naive. They're only there to increase the scoring/dunking.
