Jayhawks contend progress was made in Les Miles' 1st year in charge

kansas was competitive in 7 out of 12 games, the other 5 were blowouts. A few breaks and this season could have been 6-6. I saw more competitiveness this year than I have seen in many seasons.

Notebook: Les Miles will wait to watch the film on QB Carter Stanley

Kevin Kelly, I thought Les Miles was more soft spoken that I expected as well. But, I watched him in the espn+ series Miles To Go where they show him coaching in practice and he is quite different behind the scenes than he is in those press conferences. Much more energetic and forceful in the way he communicates with the players. There was some really odd play calling in that game, like to back to back timeouts. I’m afraid we will be 1-11 this year, but Miles does have a proven track record and may make some adjustments to squeeze out another win or two.

Shooting struggles doom Kansas in loss to Iowa State during Big 12 title game

I do think that the coaching staff definitely lost an important contributor in Danny Manning and I wish they could get him back. He was so good at improving the post play of the big players like Jeff Withey.

KU center Udoka Azubuike out for the season

Is it possible to play too hard? Azubuike is like a bull in a China closet. He not only breaks things around him, but because he doesn’t know his own strength he breaks himself too. Really unfortunate for him, he’s going to have to make some adjustments to his way of playing or this will happen over and over again.

New KU AD vows to 'break the cycle' of losing football

It’s a statement of fact that Long was fired from his last job because he lost the confidence of Arkansas fans in building a good football program. Now he is hired here to do just that. I really want him to succeed , but I’ve seen too much happy talk about people hired in the past who not only were abject failures, but had a previous record of failing.

It would have been better to find an AD to improve our football program who had not been fired from his previous job for failing to improve a football program. I mean that’s sort of what you do in any job hire. Look for someone who has been a success in their previous job.

I desperately want the program to improve as much as any fan, but I am very skeptical of this guy. I hope my skepticism is proven wrong.

KU-Kentucky set to renew unique rivalry Tuesday in Chicago

I missed the 150-95 blowout in ‘89. I wish I could find a broadcast or dvd of that game. Been looking for years.

Tom Keegan: Clear need emerges on cloudy day; time for change

I don’t see why Zenger and Beaty should need to be fired. They should resign. They should be able to look at their own horrendous record and be ashamed and realize they don’t deserve to be in their job. They have made KU a national laughingstock.

Tom Keegan: Jayhawks show no signs of progress in loss to Texas Tech

Defense defense defense. Everyone focuses so much on how bad the offense is, but to me, the bigger problem for years is a terrible defense. You can still be in the game if your defense is decent, even if you don't have a very good offense. You can win a game scoring 19 points. You can't win a game giving up 65 points.

The 2007 Orange Bowl team is lauded for Reesing and the offense, which was good, but KU also had a very good defense that year. The KU defense gave up an average of 16 points a game which was 4th out of 120 teams.

Even if our offense gets better, that horrible defense is going to continue to lose us a lot of games and in embarrassing fashion

Tom Keegan: Jayhawks fail pivotal test to prove themselves

Between the 1992 and 2008 seasons KU went 5-1 in bowls games, including a BCS victory, finished in the top 25 three times, including two finishes in the top 10. We had a decent program with some good coaches. It doesn't have to be this bad. No one wants to fire yet another HC and have to start all over, but if they can't at least show some improvement over last year, this will have to happen.
