Mangino denies validity of former player allegations

From what I have read, other than "The Poke" and the butt kicking he gave a K-State player for sleeping in a film session, the problems I have heard and read about are verbal abuse. Did he cross a line with some of the things he said? Yes I agree, but I haven't heard of him punching a player, chocking a player or anything worse. Hell I seen Joe Pa kick a player in the butt because he wasn't lining up correctly. Bear Bryant I'm sure done worse.

The LJW ran stories about HC Mangino's temper, and from I read: Yeah he was banned from his son's high school games for yelling at an official for a late hit against his son. Well I haven't seen the hit, but I am sure that there are parents out there that if there son were hit and was a possible injury, that would run out on the field to protect their son. His yelling at students for getting parking tickets, well anyone who has seen the show 'Parking Wars" knows that the show is about people blowing up for getting tickets. The blow up after the 2004 Texas games, well KU fans were all behing Mangino when he was pi--ed and criticized the officials. Fans were applauding for his stance and sticking up for KU, trying to get some respect and recognition(?) after they lost thanks to a controversial penality. The incident caught on the sideline after the Pendleton TD penalty, well I wonder how many F-Bombs Bo Pelini let loose last year that weren't caught on tape.

I believe that investigation will be concluded as soon as the final gun sounds after the Missouri game and one of two things will happen:

If Kansas wins, Lew Perkins will find that Mangino did verbally abuse players and as a result will be placed under University probation, fined and be told to take anger management classes, but keep his job.

If Kansas loses, Perkins will fire Mangino stating that the actions of HC Mangino do not represent the University and will part ways with the head coach. Two months later at the last second, KU will hire some position coach from some second teir conference who has some glowing recommdations from Perkinss

Not-so-gentle reign

I'm betting that after this investigation, Lew Perkins will probably not fire Mangino, but try something that Indiana did with Bobby Knight and try to have a Zero Tolerence Policy on Head Coach Mangino. How that goes after that is anybody's guess.

Investigation of Mangino launched after player complains coach poked him

Yeah lets fire Mangino! After all KU has only had 30+ football coaches in it history. Lets fire him, waste 2 months finding a new head coach, loose some possible recruits to K-State, Missouri or any other Big 12 teams. Bring in a coach with new systems and hope the current player will adjust, or it will be like trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Then when we tank against Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, and the weaker Big 12 South teams, we can run that guy out of town just in time to get beat up by the OU, UT and TT South 2 years later. If he screamed at some players, BFD! Ask some of Bear Bryant's Texas A&M team how they felt about him after his first season there. This season has been frustrating, but STUFF happens. Mangino can't make Briscoe catch those 2 passes in the end zone against Colorado, or Meier not to fumble at the 4 going in for a TD, or Thorton going 100 mph and not to grab a face mask. Some changes to the coaching staff have to be made, but from where the program was when Mangino first got here to where it is now, he deserves at least one more season.

Ugly Jayhawk

Does anyone remember after the Oklahoma game in 2004 in Norman when a lot of the offensive Oklahoma players, like Jason White, when over met with Mangino after the game because they respected him so much.

I can see that Mangino is a man that expected a players very best, and know what to do on the field, other wise you won't play. If players had a problem with that, I think players would be leaving Kansas left and right.

Hell I remember when he was O.C. at Oklahoma during a nationally televisied game against Texas A&M I think, and after a play Mark Clayton came over to the side line and Mangino was yelling at him about how he didn't run his route long enough to gain a first down. The television mic caught some of it pretty good about how he needed to get his head into the game and know what's going on and what he needed to do.
