Jayhawk walk-on Teahan ready for new role

It is well documented the downfall of Downs was his lack of defensive quickness and willingness to improve his defense. Additionally, he had some 'personal' issues with girlfriend and family home in Washington. Now that he has matured some he is playing better. Bottom line is that to make it to the Final Four these days you need a team concept, perimeter defense, solid post play, and good free throw shooting...KU hasn't had all four at the same time. Perhpas next year if Rush returns we will have an improved chance to advance.

I feel Coach Self needs to look for another 'athlete' to fill Wright's shoes.

Woodling: Kansas ignored in draft

You can't ignore the importance of money, coaching, strength and conditioning and the emphasis on winning for some players being selected.

This is what helps recruit NFL-type talent. Anyone can tell you that the NFL combine is a screening process for Sunday games. If we trained our football players to run 40s, perform vertical jumps, and do t-shuttle drills all day we might get a few more in the draft...fact is KU needs wins first. I would be shocked if the coaches spent their time pushing the student athletes toward improving draft stock versus winning games.

Mayer: Self tries to play savior

I agree with Coach Self's philosophy, but wonder if the University and Athletics department should have some sort of mentoring/sponsorship role in 'cultural' and 'educational' development.
