Three freshmen can play

I'd like to see Coach Self take a game, and use Appleton and Releford in the same roles he's currently using Reed and Morningstar, and see how well the team does. I think it's an experiment worth trying this early in the season, and Coppin St. would be a perfect game to try it in. I think the results would be positive.

My take on the Chalmers/Arthur incident: Beasley and the girls were smoking pot, Chalmers and Arthur were waiting for the action afterwards.I don't imagine Beasley and Chalmers will be rooming together on the road this year with the Heat.

Interesting......going from assistant coach at OSU to video coordinator at KU. Is that a job promotion?

Guard a wily veteran

I still don't understand why Brady suited up for all the games last year. I think that's as close to glory as he's going to get. But, don't you think it odd that a red-shirt suits up for games and warms up with the team?

Morris twins, Collins don't practice

Cole as team leader. I can see it. I can't think of anyone else that would qualify at this point. His enthusiasim will go far, and his performance on the court is going to be awesome this year. This is going to be a great year for him playing wise, and experience wise.

Gary Bedore's KU basketball notebook

I think once Bill Self's players play a couple of years in the NBA (this being his first true class to go through his program from recruiting to completing), they'll prove their value and worth. I don't think we'll see slippage on draft day for KU players anytime soon. Mario and DA will prove to be excellent NBA players as will Jackson and eventually Kaun, not to mention what Rush will do. I'd think any HS big would be licking their chops to come to KU, to get tutelage from Danny Manning, and toughness from Bill Self. Jackson speaks well for how well bigs develop an KU, and guards excel on Bill Self teams.

Keegan: Kansas loads up again

Keep in mind how Coach Self approaches a new season. The 1st third of the season is spent instructing and developing his team. Wins and Losses are not as important. The middle third of the season is league play, and we all know how serious HCBS is about league play. He's determined to win it every year. The last part of the season is tournament play. At this point, it's just a crap shoot. The team has been seasoned and prepared, but how far they go depends partly on luck, knowing each team they play is a winner.

It's interesting that nobody mentions Morningstar in next year's rotation. Probably the best contribution Morningstar could make is give up his scholarship so Bobo can be a Jayhawk.

I think Calipari was thinking about how to cut down the nets, and what he was going to do with that trophy. He lost focus of the game 10 seconds too early.
